Black Panther's Winston Duke is the most recent Hollywood actor to reveal his favorite anime, which he shared with great enthusiasm, is Demon Slayer.

Duke, who plays M'Baku in Black Panther, took the time to answer some fan questions on his official Twitter account, and one fan asked the actor what his favorite shonen anime was. Duke wrote, "Favorite is Demon Slayer!!!! hands down." My Hero Academia comes in as a close second for him.

Celebrities Like Anime, Too

Duke isn't the first Black Panther actor to openly voice his love for anime. Michael B. Jordan, who portrays Eric Killmonger, has been outspoken about his passion for anime. In a 2018 GQ episode, Jordan revealed his favorite anime was Naruto: Shippuden, having watched the show since he was 12 or 13 years old.

Best known for playing M'Baku, the leader of the Jabari Tribe who helps defend Wakanda from Killmonger, Duke went on to reprise his role in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In between his MCU films, Duke played Gabe Wilson in the 2019 horror film Us alongside his friend and fellow MCU actor Lupita Nyong'o. His recent non-MCU work is Nine Days, a 2020 fantasy drama film where he starred as an arbiter who interviews souls for the opportunity to be born. He voices Bruce Wayne in the superhero audio drama podcast Batman Unburied.

Created by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer revolves around a demon slayer brother who is searching for a way to turn his demon sister back into a human being. After a vicious demon slaughtered his family, Tanjiro Kamado trains, learning how to use special elemental breathing techniques. He later becomes a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, a secret society that has been killing demons for centuries and whose target is Muzan Kibutsuji, a powerful demon who can turn humans into demons with his blood and the one responsible for the death of his family. Demon Slayer's anime adaptation, produced by Ufotable, pushed the manga sales into astronomical numbers. The manga went from selling 3.5 million copies in February 2019 to 40 million in a year. In February 2021, Demon Slayer sold 150 million copies.

Written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi, it seems appropriate that one of Duke's favorite series is My Hero Academia, as the story takes place in a superhero society. Despite being born without a superpower, called a Quirk, Izuku Midoriya still dreams of one day becoming a superhero just like his idol All Might. After seeing Midoriya's raw display of bravery in saving his friend, All Might passes down his Quirk, One for All, to him, choosing him as his successor. As Midoriya learns to control the power of One for All, a villain organization led by Shigaraki, the apprentice of All Might's nemesis One for All, has his eyes set on toppling the hero society for good. My Hero Academia is one of the top best-selling manga in history, with over 50 million copies sold in April 2021. The series has not only inspired an anime adaptation, it also has several anime films, video games, light novels, stage plays and an upcoming live-action adaptation.

The first two seasons of Demon Slayer are available to stream on Crunchyroll and Hulu. My Hero Academia is currently airing its sixth season and is available on the same platforms.
