Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, left fans of the film with an emotional letter, following the successful two weeks since the movie's release.The official Marvel Twitter account posted an image of Coogler's heartfelt message expressing his thanks to fans of the second Black Panther film, which was released on Nov. 11. "Gratitude. That is the only word that comes to mind for your support of our work on the film," begins the message. The filmmaker then thanked those who bought their tickets in advance, those who took their family with them to the screening and people who saw the movie multiple times. He acknowledged the film's length and thanked fans for tolerating it, before going on to give some touching words regarding the passing of Chadwick Boseman, calling him "A giant in [the] industry."
"This medium wouldn't exist without an audience, and I thank you for giving me professional purpose, and an emotional outlet," Coogler continued. He finished the letter by mentioning his eagerness to bring fans more stories in the future, signing it with "Chadwick Forever" and "Long Live T'Challa."
Wakanda Forever opened to great success at the box office. The Marvel Cinematic Universe film earned $181 million on its opening weekend, and in the two weeks since the film's release is currently at $571 million worldwide, dethroning DC's Black Adam, which earned $368 million. The film also received critical praise for an emotional but inconsistent story that chronicles the aftermath of King T'Challa's death. It was also commended for how it challenges viewers on who they should root for between the nations of Wakanda and Talocan.
It was just the reviews that praised Wakanda Forever; Tenoch Huerta, who plays the powerful underwater antihero Namor, spoke of Wakanda Forever's impactful representation. "A lot of messages are coming from social media and most of them are from brown-skinned people saying, 'Hey, man, finally I feel proud of my color of skin. Finally, I can feel represented. Finally, I can see someone like me. He's not just a superhero, he's a person like me in a powerful role,'" said Huerta.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now playing in theaters.
