Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will officially introduce mutants to the big screen in the MCU when Namor arrives.

Tenoch Huerta spoke to Empire for its Black Panther 2 cover story and revealed that Namor will, in fact, be a mutant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige haven't confirmed the major detail, it's safe to assume the actor playing the character would be in the know. Alongside the news, the magazine also shared a new image of the anti-hero who will be vexing Wakanda in the sequel.

While fans will be excited to hear that Namor will actually be a mutant in the MCU, the film will still make one major change from the comics. "You can take Atlantis from Greek myth, or you can adapt from a real culture," Huerta said about the kingdom Namor rules over in the source material. In the MCU, Namor will instead lead the nation of Talocan. And following T'Challa's reveal to the world of Wakanda's true nature at the end of Black Panther, Namor believes Talocan is under threat. "That decision puts Talocan in jeopardy," Huerta said. "And Talocan has to take action to protect themselves."

Wakanda and Talocan Are Going to War

It's not clear exactly why Namor will view T'Challa's decision as a threat to his people, but audiences look to be in store for a bitter rivalry between the two nations. "The contrast between T’Challa and Namor – their characters, and their nations – just leaps off the page," Coogler said of the two kings in the comics. "He's a dream antagonist."

Of course, T'Challa won't be the one facing Namor. Instead, Nakia, Shuri, and the rest of Wakanda's protectors will have to cope in the wake of T'Challa's death -- which currently remains a mystery. But the mantle won't sit idle, as a new Black Panther has already been glimpsed in the trailer for the sequel. What's more, a Black Panther 2 LEGO set seems to have spoiled the identity of the new Black Panther.

Thanks to a variant of Professor X showing up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the reveal that Ms. Marvel is a mutant, homo superior already exist in the MCU. But Namor's role in Wakanda Forever will provide audiences with a proper dive into the history of the race as Feige and company prepare for the proper introduction of the X-Men and their ilk.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits theaters Nov. 11.
