With Hollywood award season now in full swing, Black Panther and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse have both just been nominated for top honors for another prestigious industry award.

The Art Directors Guild's Excellence in Production Design Awards have nominated Black Panther for Excellence in Production Design - Fantasy and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for Excellence in Production Design - Animated Film. The awards recognize superior visual design, working closely with cinematographers as well as set and costume designers. ADG winners have gone on to win for production design at the Academy Awards for the past five years.

The Marvel Studios film will compete with other fantasy films, including Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Ready Player One and Mary Poppins Returns. Sony's Into the Spider-Verse will compete with Incredibles 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet and The Grinch.

The two superhero films have been widely acclaimed since their theatrical release, with both earning numerous awards and nominations as the industry moves into award season. Last night, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature, while Black Panther was nominated for Best Picture - Drama before losing out to Bohemian Rhapsody.
