Black Panther's Shuri, Killmonger and more will star in Marvel Comics' new Wakanda limited series.

Wakanda is a new five-issue limited series from Marvel Comics launching this fall. Spinning out of John Ridley's ongoing Black Panther run, Wakanda will put a spotlight on a different fan-favorite Wakandan character in each issue. Kicking things off with Wakanda #1 -- which comes from writer Stephanie Williams and artist Paco Medina -- is a story spotlighting Shuri, T'Challa/Black Panther's younger sister. "Shuri proves that being without the Black Panther doesn’t mean Wakanda is without heroes to protect it - and that there is a reason she too once wielded the power," Marvel said of the issue.

“I’ve been such a huge fan of the Black Panther over the years, especially the evolution and expansion of the women of Wakanda," Williams said. "It’s truly an honor to kick off the new series with the Shuri story I wrote. I hope I can add to her and Wakanda’s already impressive lore.”

Each issue of Wakanda will additionally contain a backup story by writer Evan Narcisse and artist Natacha Bustos called "History of the Black Panthers." The stories will provide fans a definitive look at all of the past Wakandans who have previously been the Black Panther prior to T'Challa for the very first time. "I've been a fan of the charm and scale of Natacha Bustos' work for a long time and am thrilled to collaborate with her on a new look at Wakanda's history,” Narcisse said. “The tale we're telling will give readers a deeper look at how the Black Panthers of the past led the Unconquered Realm to glory and left a wondrous legacy that Emperor T'Challa still embodies."

Ridley's Black Panther launched in late 2021 from Marvel. Having recently released its seventh issue, Black Panther has followed a troubled T'Challa as he's declared a traitor of Wakanda and exiled from his country. While some friends -- including his ex-wife, Storm -- have come to his aid, T'Challa's former ally Akili has taken control of the Hatut Zeraze, a secret Wakanda police force that's primarily been used for nefarious purposes in past Black Panther comics. At the same time, a number of Wakandan sleeper agents placed around the world have started turning up dead and T'Challa is racing to find who is responsible before it's too late.

Wakanda #1 features cover art by Mateus Manhanini and variant cover art by Nic Klein and Stanley "Artgerm" Lau. The issue goes on sale Oct. 12.
