Back in 2018, Chadwick Boseman starred in Marvel's hit film, Black Panther, and subsequently made the superhero a worldwide phenomenon, introducing young and new fans to not just the character, but inducting them into the comic book medium as a whole.

While not the first black comic book character to grace the silver screen, both Ryan Coogler, the director, and Boseman did revitalize interest in the character. With it, they took liberties in either translating certain attributes of T'Challa to film or abandoning them to see the plot carried through.

10 Accurate - Wealth

Black Panther

It is known that a staple of Black Panther and his mythos is his obscene wealth. Having a fortune exceeding any plausible accumulation, Black Panther is one of the richest superheroes across all comics. Having a net worth fluctuating around 90 trillion, it's clear that with the somewhat grounded nature of the MCU, translating that is unimaginable.

However, Ryan Cooglar did well enough in showing that T'Challa was a cut above the rest in his affluence. Encapsulating everything from a palace and private jets to ferocious bodyguards, and having the finances to acquire anything or go anywhere, the technological integration showed he wasn't your "average billionaire."

9 Not Accurate - Timing of Ascending to the Throne

Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther

Though the death of T'Challa's father set in motion him becoming king across both mediums, in his source material T'Challa became the King of Wakanda once he was mature enough to take up the mantle from his uncle S'Yan, who was presiding as king following T'Chacka's death.

After experiencing various trials and tribulations, he ascended to adulthood and his rightful place as King. This was contrary to the MCU's approach of having the Russo Brothers introduce the interesting concept of T'Challa being bestowed the title of Black Panther in 2009, while his father remained on the throne carrying out the political agendas of Wakanda. After his father's abrupt death, he would take up the throne.

8 Accurate - Sleek Panther Habit

Throughout the mythos development, Black Panther's ceremonial garb, known as a habit, has fluctuated in design and has gotten more efficient, both in maneuverability and technologically. What began as somewhat primitive and rudimentary, the fine-attunement of Vibranium integration opened the possibilities throughout the generations.

A small handful of garbs were depicted on-screen, all of which were sleek with there own unique touches. Fans saw a great translation of a technologically advanced habit capable of graphing over T'Challa in his 2018 solo outing, an upgrade from his debut in Captain America: Civil War.

7 Not Accurate - Isolation Policy

Black Panther T'Challa UN

One loose adaptation was T'Challa's approach to rescinding his country's isolation policy. Being the most technologically advanced country on the planet with rare resources, the sitting king has always protected Wakanda jealously from outside threats. The MCU adaptation saw T'Challa step Wakanda onto the world stage after the conflict with his cousin, N'Jadaka, brought to light how Wakanda's seclusion hindered the world's development.

Though at the moment, it is left ambiguous on the extent of the outreach Wakanda is providing and what that entails, in the comics, Wakanda is still pretty adverse in their approach to the influence their country has on the overall world.

6 Accurate: Hand-to-Hand Combat

When it comes to being well-versed in hand-to-hand combat, Black Panther's skill is top of the line. Stated to have been trained in all martial arts techniques, T'Challa takes the best aspects of various styles and utilizes them into his style and benefit.

The MCU exhibited T'Challa's prowess against two of its own deadliest fighters. Black Panther held his own and almost overcame both. Debatably Tony Masters, better known as Task Master, bears the mantle of the best hand-to-hand fighter in Marvel Comics.

5 Not Accurate - Intelligence

Black Panther T'Challa and Shuri

One of the most noticeable differences was the lack of intelligence displayed in T'Challa's onscreen appearances. That's not to say he was a box of bolts but T'Challa is consistently rated among the smartest characters in the Marvel Universe. Through the unification of ancient alchemy and quantum physics, he developed his own field of science dubbed Shadow Physics.

It seemed as though the MCU made a departure of this aspect and instead vested this trait into his sister, Shuri. More or less an equivalent to James Bond's "Q," Shuri developed and provided T'Challa with his technological gadgets and upgrades.

4 Accurate - A Tender King

Black Panther - Marvel Comics

Depending on the era and the residing king's intentions, Kings' throughout history have been depicted as having multiple characteristics, some were feared and ruled with a tyrannical iron-fist, others were more benevolent and generous towards its people.

T'Challa, across both mediums is shown to be the latter, a kind-hearted king who cares for his people and the overall safety of the world. Though there are factions in Wakanda that oppose the throne, T'Challa always did what was right by his kingdom, even if it meant stepping down from the throne to keep tensions between his people peaceful.

3 Not Accurate - T'Chacka's Death

King-T'Chaka

In the comics, T'Chacka met his demise at the hands of the villain, Ulysses Klaw. Attempting to raid Wakanda's Vibranium mines, one of Klaw's sonic weapons targeted for his son would strike T'Chaka when trying to protect T'Challa.

In the MCU, T'Chacka was a casualty in Baron Zemo's terrorist attack on the UN assembly. T'Challa noticed a commotion and failed in attempting to save his father's life, an act of odd irony on the MCU's part. Though the death differences are glaring, the live-action translation pulled on the heart-strings just as the source material did.

2 Accurate - T'Challa's Vindictiveness

Black Panther knocks out Namor in Marvel Comics

After his father died, one trait that began to prop up with T'Challa was his vindictiveness and lengths he'd go to for revenge. Believing Bucky Barnes to be the one behind his father's demise, he relentlessly pursued him, looking to bring him to fatal justice.

However, once it's revealed Bucky was framed as a ploy for Baron Zemo to pin Steve against Tony and operate unfettered, T'Challa switches his sights to Zemo, though he realizes the path he is on and veers from falling prey to his darker demons and subdues Zemo rather than kill him. In the source material, woe betides the poor souls who harm T'Challa's loved ones or threaten his country's sovereignty, a lesson learned after a power-drunk Namor flooded Wakanda.

1 Not Accurate - Vibranium Maguffin

Black Panther poised for attack in vibranium suit

Vibranium, the rare space metal that crash-landed in Wakanda a millennia ago and subsequently made Wakanda what it is today, has the ability to absorb sound and if tempered properly, amplify mystical energies through a mix of magic and science. While one of the most durable metals presented across both mediums, Vibranium is used as a sort of Macguffin in the MCU, serving as more a plot device, than an aspect of the Black Panther mythos.

In the comics, the storyline Doom War gives an analysis of this idea seeing Dr. Doom seize all of Wakanda's Vibranium storages. In an act of stopping Doom's scheme, T'Challa rendered all Vibranium across the planet inert.
