"The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda stands as one of the most exciting evolutions of the Black Panther mythos and I'm so glad to be returning to it with co-writer Adam Serwer," Narcisse said. "Wakanda #2 focuses on M'Baku and his new role as regent of Intergalactic Wakanda and our story will explore how new revelations from his past impact the growing pains of the space empire. It's great to reconnect with M'Baku; he's a character that combines complicated legacies and has to figure his own path and a way forward for a powerful new faction in Marvel's cosmic landscape."

M'Baku and the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda

The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda was first introduced in 2017's Marvel's Legacy #1. Created thousands of years ago by time-traveling explores from Wakanda sent by T'Challa, the empire was initially a corrupt and cruel embodiment of Wakanda hellbent on conquering other galaxies. T'Challa eventually learned of the empire and took charge of it. In 2021's Last Annihilation: Wakanda by Narcisse, Germán Peralta, Jesus Aburtov and Cory Petit, T'Challa passed leadership duties onto M'Baku, a character who first appeared in 1969's Avengers #62 and who is played by Winston Duke in the MCU's Black Panther franchise.

Wakanda is a new five-issue series launching in October. Spinning out of John Ridley's ongoing Black Panther run, each issue of Wakanda focuses on a different fan-favorite character during the time in which T'Challa is thrown out of his country. Each issue of Wakanda also contains a backup story by Narcisse and Bustos focusing on past Wakandans who once held the Black Panther title.

Wakanda #2 releases Nov. 16 from Marvel Comics.
