Following Tuesday's news of a "fresh start" that will revitalize its entire superhero line, Marvel Comics has announced it will relaunch Black Panther in May.

Acclaimed writer Ta-Nehisi Coates will remain on the title, joined by new artist Daniel Acuña for Black Panther #1, which begins a storyline teased last year in the Marvel Legacy #1 one-shot: the founding of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda.

“I can’t emphasize enough how clean of an entry point this is for new readers. Readers are going to be learning about this mysterious ‘Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda’ right alongside T’Challa, so everyone is going to be on the same page," editor Wil Moss said in a statement provided to Newsarama. "And, oh, man, is Daniel Acuña delivering the goods! He ‘gets’ the character of Black Panther like no other, and his designs for the Intergalactic Empire are … well, they’re out of this world!”

Black Panther joins the previously announced relaunches of Avengers, by Jason Aaron and Ed MGuinness, and Venom, by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman, in Marvel's "fresh start" initiative.

“I can say, walking through these halls, I have never seem more enthusiasm and more excitement for where Marvel Comics is going this year, Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said in a video announcing the linewide relaunch. “Not since Marvel NOW! have we have we had such an overarching, linewide change of talent on the Marvel Comics line.”

An award-winning journalist and author, Coates began writing Black Panther in April 2016, with the series' previous relaunch. Elements of his run with artist Brian Stelfreeze served as inspiration for director Ryan Coogler's blockbuster film.

Black Panther #1, by Coates and Acuña, goes on sale May 23 from Marvel Comics.
