A familiar government official may appear somewhere in Marvel's upcoming Secret Invasion series on Disney+.

In a conversation with Radio Times, Black Panther's Martin Freeman responded to Samuel L. Jackson's prior comment about him and Don Cheadle reprising their roles for Secret Invasion. Describing the comment as "kosher information," Freeman noted, "In order not to embarrass Samuel, I will say… I'm not gonna say he's got that totally wrong and he's thinking of Sam Rockwell. So yes, I may very well be [appearing]."

Assuming he does reappear as CIA agent Everett Ross, Secret Invasion will see Freeman join Jackson and other returning stars like Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill and Ben Mendelsohn's Talos. It would also be Cheadle's second return as James Rhodes in a Marvel series, having previously reprised his role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Furthermore, Secret Invasion marks the Marvel debut for actors Emila Clarke, Olivia Coleman and Christopher McDonald, as well as Kingsley Ben-Adir as the show's antagonist.

Freeman debuted as Agent Ross in Captain America: Civil War, presiding over Bucky Barnes' incarceration in Bucharest and later that of antagonist Helmut Zemo. He then played a larger role in Black Panther, crossing paths with King T'Challa while overseeing a sting operation in Busan to capture arms dealer Ulysses Klaw. After being critically injured by Erik Killmonger, T'Challa brings Ross back to Wakanda to heal his wounds. In return, Ross assisted his sister Shuri in preventing Killmonger from transporting Wakandan ships with vibranium weapons past the country's border.

Secret Invasion is inspired by the 2008 event comic of the same name, which revealed that the Skrull race had been covertly replacing Marvel metahumans and high-ranking officials with Skrull imposters for years. Aside from Disney+'s show, this comic was previously adapted for Season 2 of the animated series The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. In addition to Secret Invasion, Freeman will play Ross again in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which releases on Nov. 11.

No official footage for Wakanda Forever has come out yet, leaving it uncertain how the film will address the late Chadwick Boseman's absence. Most recently, online promotional artwork for Wakanda Forever provided a first look at Okoye and Shuri, the latter wearing a brand new purple outfit. The artwork also revealed live-action costumes for Marvel antihero Namor the Sub-Mariner and antagonist Attuma, seemingly confirming the debut of Atlantis in the MCU.

No official release date for Secret Invasion has been announced yet.
