The trailers for Black Panther have been emphatic about one thing: Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa doesn’t freeze in the heat of battle. A new international trailer for the film likely explains why. The Japanese trailer reveals a slightly more in-depth explanation of his costume’s capabilities.

Previous trailers have driven home that the suit is built from lightweight components and is virtually bulletproof. The new trailer drops another detail. T’Challa’s suit can also absorb energy. The energy can then be redistributed at the wearer’s command.

How exactly this plays out in the film has yet to be revealed. It will be interesting to see what rules restrict the suit. Is the energy in question purely kinetic, or something more? At the moment the line is delivered, Black Panther throws several glowing grenades that attach to a convoy and explode, so perhaps the energy is "redistributed" through very direct means. You know -- explosions.

Directed by Ryan Coogler from a script he wrote with Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, and Forest Whitaker as Zuri. The Marvel Studios film arrives in theaters Feb. 16, 2018.
