Those films are Incredibles 2 ($608 million), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($416 million) and Deadpool 2 ($318 million).According to Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis, the film marks the first time that a black director has topped "the domestic box office charts for the entire year."

Despite its title character apparently dying at the end of Infinity War, there are already plans for a sequel to Black Panther, so it's unlikely that T'Challa will stay dead for long.
