The following contains major for Black Panther #11, available now from Marvel Comics.

Like the majority of Wakandans, T'Challa shares some deeply rooted issues with the rest of the world. This is especially true of the foreign governments who would exploit Wakanda's developments and resources for their own gain, though not necessarily the heroes who represent them. While T'Challa and Steve Rogers have always had their differences, there has always been a profound level of respect and understanding between them. Now that the Black Panther is no longer a part of Wakanda, however, it appears as though that sense of comradery is beginning to only go one way, and it might just be what kicks off the Avengers' very own Civil War.

Since his reinstatement as chairman of the Avengers, the titular hero of Black Panther #11 (by John Ridley, Germán Peralta, Ceci De La Cruz, and VC's Joe Sabino) has led his allies against some of the most outlandish threats to grace the Marvel Universe. Unfortunately, neither that nor any other prior encounter has prepared him for an army of largely peaceful, seemingly untouchable terrorists. After a series of disastrous albeit ultimately harmless encounters with their new enemies, the Avengers are left wondering what their next course of action could possibly be. As far as Captain America is concerned, the only correct answer is an explosive display of force, whereas T'Challa understands that the situation at hand is far too nuanced to ever be answered with force, and that's a serious problem.

Under other circumstances that would be an understandable disagreement for the two heroes, but as things stand today, it might end up being what erodes the Avengers entirely. It isn't just that Captain America feels personally aggrieved by being bested on the battlefield, but that T'Challa has unwittingly thrown his good graces back in his face. Obviously, this isn't anything the Black Panther ever intended, yet Steve's personal issues with him simply don't allow for him to see the truth of the matter as clearly as calmer people.

Reinstating T'Challa as chairman was already a difficult decision to follow through with, but the fact that it hasn't led him to open up to the rest of the team has proven to be more problematic for Captain America than anyone had previously anticipated. Not only is Black Panther back leading Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but he is also doing so after giving up his throne and leaving Wakanda behind for, as far as Cap and the others can tell, are no real reasons whatsoever. This couldn't be further from reality, yet no Avenger besides T'Challa is privy to that information, and it is absolutely infuriating to the Star-Spangled Super-Soldier who offered him the job in the first place.

Considering the secret sleeper agents and sprawling conspiracies which led to T'Challa giving up his reign, Steve's concerns aren't entirely unwarranted, even if his raging paranoia makes it seem like that is the case. Still, what Steve is being driven towards due to his anger and frustrations can't possibly be good for anyone, least of all himself. Even if T'Challa is all but guaranteed to lose his position within the Avengers before long, there is nothing to say that it will be his fault. At least, not while the best of his teammates is spiraling into an exceptionally dark place.

Should the following months prove to be the end of T'Challa's tenure among Earth's Mightiest Heroes, they will mark another great shift in his life that is more beneficial than anyone would guess looking in from the outside. Just as losing his throne has seen T'Challa make genuinely massive strides as a person, losing his position as the head of the Avengers would force him to be more resourceful and resilient than ever. It would also be perfectly in line with the spate of recent stories which have pushed T'Challa to the brink over and over again, only for him to push back harder than ever.
