When filming an action movie, it's easy for actors to become seriously injured in stunts gone wrong and, according to Andy Serkis, an action set piece in Black Panther went very awry during production, which almost resulted in his ribs getting broken.

Appearing on PeopleTV's Couch Surfing, the actor recalled what it was like to work on the film's night-time car chase scene, which followed a major fight in a casino. Serkis, who was dealing with jet lag during filming, went on to explain that during the very first take of that scene, Chadwick Boseman accidentally put too much power into his knee, leaving Serkis afraid his ribs had been broken.

"This chase ends up with T’Challa, Chad’s character… chasing me and catching me," the actor explained. "It was a night shoot and the very first take he kneed me so hard in the chest, 'cause he couldn’t really see with his mask on. I felt like he had broken my ribs in the very first take."

Thankfully, Boseman didn't break Serkis' ribs. And despite the pain, Serkis went on to film at least 30 takes of the same scene -- including the repeated flipping of the car before T'Challa finally captures Klaue. Serkis explained that, while filming the car flipping, he kept thinking that he was "going to die." Luckily, it's something the actor can now look back on and laugh.
