Black Panther was a massive box office success when it was released this time last year and, as awards season continues on, the film is filling up its trophy case. So far, the film has taken home multiple honors at the Critics Choice Awards, while Chadwick Boseman won GQ's International Man of the Year Award for 2018. However, according to recent odds put out by Sports Betting Dime, Black Panther might strike out at the Oscars.

According to the betting website, which has reportedly listed five of the last six winners for Best Picture as favorites, Black Panther has a steep mountain to climb if it wants to take home that coveted award. The website lists Black Panther at 74/1 odds to win Best Picture, far behind favorites like Roma (3/2), A Star is Born (4/1) and Green Brook (9/1). Even Bohemian Rhapsody, which received mixed reviews as opposed to Black Panther's overwhelmingly positive reviews, is favored high above Black Panther at 12/1.

Other categories have Black Panther as a long shot as well. The film's director Ryan Coogler is listed as a 75/1 favorite to win Best Director, an even longer shot to win that Oscar.

It's incredibly difficult for a superhero film to take home awards at that stage and, given its genre, Black Panther has already been incredibly successful in the eyes of critics. It looks like Black Panther will go home empty-handed from the Oscars, at least in terms of the major awards, but that won't take away from the impact it had on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.
