Black Panther title star Chadwick Boseman died in August 2020, after keeping secret for four years that he had been diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. His death rocked the Hollywood community and brought forth an outpouring of grief from his fans and his co-stars, and also left Marvel Studios with a dilemma in how to pull off a planned sequel.

Jordan said, "We all took a hit with the loss of Chadwick, so for them trying to figure out how to move forward, I know it's not an easy thing to do. So the fact that they settled on a title and figuring out this story, I think is truly incredible. If anybody could figure it out, it's [Black Panther director] Ryan Coogler and [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige."

The trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever includes a voiceover of Stan Lee saying, "That man next to you, he's your brother," as an image of Boseman and Jordan is on screen. Told about the moment, which he had not seen, Jordan responded, "Wow. Stan Lee saying that? I got to check it out."

Regarding Boseman, Jordan said, "I wish I had more time."
