The film slate released by Marvel Studios at SDCC this year contained plenty of exciting titles set for release between this year and 2021, but beyond that, plans are vague. And while studio president Kevin Feige reconfirmed the development of a Black Panther sequel, he didn't provide a release date, or any other information, about the anticipated follow-up.
In an interview with MTV News, however, actress Danai Guirara was asked about what she knew of the highly anticipated film, namely whether or not Killmonger will be making a return. Of course, Guirara was hesitant in answering that question -- not a surprise, considering Marvel Studios tends to be secretive about these matters -- but she did surrender one crucial detail: Okoye will be returning."Literally, I have no information. That's the beauty of our conversation right now [...] Mr. Coogler [director of Black Panther] says, 'Tell them we're working hard -- and you're in it.'"
Wakanda's mighty general of the Dora Milaje last appeared in Avengers: Endgame (directed by Joe and Antony Russo) as a member of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, having survived Thanos' snap, or, as it's referred to in the MCU, the Blip. In the wake of T'Challa's disappearance at the had of Thanos, she saw to the wellbeing of Africa until it was time to join the Avengers in the final fight against the Mad Titan and his Black Order.
Marvel Studios has not formally announced the Black Panther sequel, so details regarding a release date or the cast are scarce. All that is certain is that Ryan Coogler is returning to write and direct the film, which will star Chadwick Boseman and Danai Guirara.
