A new promo from Marvel Studios has confirmed the official titles for the upcoming Black Panther and Captain Marvel sequels.

Black Panther 2 will be titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, while Captain Marvel 2 is called The Marvels. The former is a clear nod to the battle cry of the Wakandan army that became a catchphrase in its own right after the release of Black Panther, while the latter -- as evidenced by the font of the "S" -- is an allusion to Kamal Khan/Ms. Marvel's involvement in the film.

While the direction of The Marvels seems apparent, it's currently unclear how the plot of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will play out given the passing of T'Challa actor Chadwick Boseman. Marvel Studios has no plans to recast the late actor, and the notion of recreating him using CGI was already shot down by Marvel Studios President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige. According to Lupito Nyong'o, however, writer/director Ryan Coogler "reshaped the second movie is so respectful of the loss we’ve all experienced as a cast and as a world. So it feels spiritually and emotionally correct to do this."

Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever stars Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett and Martin Freeman. The film arrives in theaters July 8, 2022.

Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Megan McDonnell, The Marvels stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 11, 2022.
