A major cameo in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could have serious implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming Thunderbolts project.

During the course of Marvel Studio's latest blockbuster, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) makes a grand return as the CIA director that Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) operates under. Wakanda Forever also confirms that the two were previously married. While Fontaine doesn't mention any plans regarding her intention to recruit her own team of anti-heroes, some fans have taken her position at the Central Intelligence Agency to suggest that the Thunderbolts will work for the United States government. Others speculate that Fontaine will eventually go rogue and use the group to achieve her own goals.

Valentina Allegra de Fontaine has appeared as a cameo in several MCU projects, her first outing being the post-credits of Black Widow wherein she sends Yelena Belova on a mission to kill Hawkeye. She subsequently shows up in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, recruiting disgraced Captain America replacement John Walker aka U.S. Agent. She is expected to play a major role in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie.

The Story of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever follows the characters of the titular country as they mourn the loss of King T'Challa and attempt to keep their nation safe in the wake of looming international threats. Fans will recognize many returning characters, including Shuri, Nakia, Okoye, M'Baku and Queen Ramonda, all of whom play a role in determining who will be the next to don the mantle of the Black Panther. Marvel Studios has remained secretive regarding the superhero's new identity but recently released LEGO sets seemingly spoiled the major reveal months ahead of the film's debut.

Wakanda Forever will also add several new characters to the MCU, including one of Marvel's longest-standing and most recognizable faces: Namor the Submariner. Played by Tenoch Huerta, the leader of the undersea nation of Talocan is positioned as the film's antagonist, waging war on Wakanda due to the fictional African country's supply of the highly-valuable element Vibranium. Despite this villainous framing, Huerta insists Namor isn't the villain of the movie, instead preferring to label him as a misguided anti-hero.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now available in theaters around the world.
