Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actor Angela Bassett revealed the script for the long-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) sequel is still undergoing rewrites despite production beginning in late June.

"I don't know what it's going to look like at all," Bassett told Entertainment Tonight about her return to Wakanda as Queen Ramonda. "There have been about five incarnations of the script and I hear another one's coming." Marvel fans can rest easy though, as Marvel Studios is known for putting its films through heavy rewrites throughout production.

In the same interview, Bassett shared that the sequel to 2018's Black Panther will pay tribute to late T'Challa actor Chadwick Boseman, who died in August 2020 after battling colon cancer.

"Of course, with our dear king going on to glory, a lot of things had to be shifted and changed, so thankfully, Ryan [Coogler] and Joe Robert Cole, they're just such masterful storytellers that they've found a way into this world and hopefully it will be satisfying, I think, for the fans and it will be honorable of our Chad," the actor explained. "We love our king."

Marvel Studios President and Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige confirmed at the Black Widow Global Fan Event in Los Angeles last month that production on Wakanda Forever began in Atlanta, Georgia on June 29."It's clearly very emotional without Chad," Feige said at the time. "But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We're going to do it in a way that would make Chad proud."

Bassett's comments came just days after new plot details about the film suggested an "intertwined history" between Wakanda and Atlantis. These plot details for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever can be read below:

Both Wakanda and Atlantis are hidden civilizations with advanced technology and increased militaristic abilities that decided to separate themselves from the rest of the world for their own safety, and in a way, out of fear. Wakanda feared that their technology would be abused. Atlantis feared that surface dwellers would come and desecrate the mythical city just as they did so many years ago. And yet their fears escalate even further when these two once-hidden nations clash with each other. Wakanda and Atlantis have a shockingly intertwined history. Wakanda is the only county in the world with access to vibranium. However, rumors of its power spread throughout the world, and Namor's human father was sent searching for this rare material in Antartica…"

Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever stars Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett and Martin Freeman. The film arrives in theaters July 8, 2022.
