WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for the Season 2 premiere of Black Lightning, "The Book of Consequences: Chapter One: Rise of the Green Light Babies," which debuted Tuesday on The CW.
The number of people Tobias Whale trusts can be counted on one hand. There's his younger sister Tori, and his lieutenants Joey Toledo and Syonide. Unfortunately, two of those characters were killed in the first season of Black Lightning.
Tori died during a battle against Black Lightning, and Gambi took out Joey Toledo on orders from Lady Eve. With the secretive A.S.A. briefcase in his possession, Tobias and Syonide were set to rule Freeland -- that is, until Syonide paid a visit to former A.S.A. agent Fowdy.
Syonide tried to bring Fowdy in for Tobias, but Fowdy proved she could handle herself in a gun and knife fight. After a back and forth, Fowdy got the best of Syonide and killed the henchwoman with a strike to the throat. We should also mention the lethal weapon was a shoe heel with an extended knife hidden inside.
With nowhere else to turn, Ms. Fowdy reaches out to Gambi for help escaping the A.S.A., since he has experience doing the same thing. He offers to consider helping Fowdy on one condition -- she retrieve the briefcase, which has been teased to contain "hell" inside it.
"The Book of Consequences: Chapter One: Rise of the Green Light Babies" ends with Fowdy breaking into Tobias' headquarters to steal the briefcase. Of course, that goes about as well as you'd expect when someone tries to take something from Tobias Whale. Things go drastically different for Fowdy in this fight compared to the one with Syonide, as Tobias uses his favorite harpoon gun to impale Fowdy. However, she is able to escape by jumping out the window of his penthouse.
It's left unclear whether Fowdy survived not only the fall, but also the major wound to her stomach. She's demonstrated she will do whatever it takes to escape the A.S.A. life, even willing to tangle with the likes of Tobias Whale and Syonide. There aren't many people who can say they've done that and lived to brag about it. Perhaps Ms. Fowdy will be the anomaly.
Airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Black Lightning stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning, China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce, Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce/Thunder, Christine Adams as Lynn Stewart, Marvin “Krondon” Jones III as Tobias Whale, Damon Gupton as Billy Henderson and James Remar as Peter Gambi.
