SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "The Book of Little Black Lies," the latest episode of Black Lightning.

Black Lightning just namedropped two major DC Universe characters. In "The Book of Little Black Lies," the latest episode, the show confirmed that both Vixen and Supergirl exist in its universe.

"The Book of Little Black Lies" dealt with the consequences of Anissa's decision to tell Jennifer the truth about their family. Like Jennifer actor China Anne McCalin teased earlier, the youngest Pierce didn't take the news nearly as well as her big sister. As such, Jennifer spent most of the episode moping around the house, with each of her family members coming to comfort her.

The Vixen/Supergirl reveal came during Jennifer's heart-to-heart with her mother Lynn. As Jennifer scrolled through her phone in her room, Lynn came and sat down on her bed, saying, "I know exactly what you're going through."

"Not unless you came in here to tell me you're Vixen," Jennifer retorted. "You didn't, right?"

"Busted," Lynn joked, at which Jennifer was thoroughly unamused. "No, I'm not Vixen or Supergirl. Just Mom."

Though Vixen and Supergirl both exist in the Arrowverse, executive producer Salim Akil made it clear that Black Lightning is not part of that world in a past interview. “I say this with all due respect, but [the Arrowverse shows are] not really relevant to the show that we’re doing,” he explained at the Television Critics’ Association Winter press tour. “The great thing that Warner Bros. and CW allowed us to do was create our own world. We really wanted folk to get to know this family before we started branching out.”

Previously, Black Lightning established that Jefferson isn’t the only vigilante in his world. In the series premiere, Lynn watched a broadcast that addressed this very point. “Why is [Black Lightning] a vigilante, but other communities have folks with superpowers and suddenly they’re heroes?” special guest Roland Martin demanded to know. This confirmed that, within the confines of the show, other superheroes do exist and that they are known to the world at large. However, they went unnamed until this moment in "The Book of Little Black Lies."

Airing Tuesdays at 9 pm ET/PT on The CW, Black Lightning stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning, China Anne McClain as his younger daughter Jennifer Pierce, Nafessa Williams as his older daughter Anissa Pierce, Christine Adams as Lynn Pierce, James Remar as Peter Gambi, Damon Gupton as Henderson, Marvin “Krondon” Jones III as Tobias Whale and Chantal Thuy as Grace Choi.
