The main cast of The CW's Black Lightning continues to expand as it was announced that Chantal Thuy will be promoted to a series regular for the series' fourth season.Entertainment Weekly made the announcement of Thuy's promotion on Friday. The actor has played the shapeshifting Grace Choi since Season 1 in a recurring capacity. Warner Bros. TV congratulated the actor on joining the main cast. Warner Bros. wrote on Twitter, "Black Lightning’s Chantal Thuy upped to series regular. Chantal plays Grace Choi, a superhero in her own right. Congratulations, Chantal!"

"Chantal Thuy embodies the character of Grace Choi,” Black Lightning executive producer Salim Akil told EW in a statement. “I am sure our Black Lightning fans knew, especially those who follow the Grace and Anissa relationship storyline, that having Chantal join as a series regular was only a matter of time. I am elated to finally welcome her officially to the team."

Grace and Anissa's love story has been documented throughout the first three seasons, culminating in the Arrowverse's first LGBTQ+ marriage in episode 15 of Season 3. News of Thuy's promotion to series regular came on the heels of another big announcement for The CW series. On Thursday, it was announced Painkiller (portrayed by Jordan Calloway) will get a backdoor pilot in Season 4 for a potential spinoff.

Black Lightning stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning, China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce, Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce/Thunder, Christine Adams as Lynn Stewart, Marvin "Krondon" Jones III as Tobias Whale, James Remar as Peter Gambi and Chantal Thuy as Grace Choi. Season 4 premieres Feb. 8, 2021 on The CW.
