The CW has announced Erika Alexander (Living SingleThe Cosby Show) is joining the cast of Black Lightning in a recurring role.

Alexander will play a telepathic therapist named Perenna. Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) and Lynn Stewart (Christine Adams) enlist Perenna to help Jennifer (China Anne McClain) learn to use her new developing powers, along with balancing the emotions that come with being a metahuman. Alexander is slated to appear in three episodes.

Alexander's acting credits include Cousin Pam on The Cosby Show, Maxine Shaw on Living Single, where she won two best actress NAACP Image Awards, Detective LaToya in Get OutQueen Sugar, Beyond and Bosch. Upcoming roles include HBO's Insecure and the horror film I See You starring Helen Hunt.

The actor also co-writes the Dark Horse Comics Buffy spinoff series, Giles, with creator Joss Whedon.

Black Lightning debuts Oct. 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
