SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "And Then the Devil Brought the Plague: The Book of Green Light," the latest episode of Black Lightning.

Anissa Pierce got herself a new outfit in "And Then the Devil Brought the Plague: The Book of Green Light," the latest episode of Black Lightning -- but it wasn't just any costume. When she donned her new superhero suit, she looked as though she stepped right out of the comics.

Back in 2003, DC Comics relaunched its Outsiders titles with a newer -- and younger -- cast of characters, including Anissa Pierce as Thunder. In this four-year run, Thunder wore a pink, purple and blue ensemble with gold and black accents. She also donned a blond wig to help disguise her identity.

Anissa Pierce put together a costume directly inspired by the Outsiders comic.

When Anissa goes shopping for a new superhero costume in the Black Lightning TV series, she picks out a similar look for herself, complete with the wig. She ultimately ditched the black hoodie because her sister Jennifer borrowed it when she needed it; further, her spandex cat suit, which she wore to Grace's cosplay party, tore when she tested out a few moves in it. As such, the episode featured a shopping montage, where Anissa spent some serious time picking out the perfect costume. She later wore this costume to break into a storage unit that her grandfather Alvin kept a secret from everyone else.

Of course, Anissa probably won't stick with the latex look for long. As seen in a previously released photo, she'll get a costume upgrade much like her father's. This version of the costume is an homage to Thunder's more recent costume in the comics.

Eventually, Anissa will get a costume upgrade on Black Lightning.

This isn't the first reference that Black Lightning has made to the Outsiders. Just two episodes ago, Grace Choi handed Anissa a copy of Outsiders #16, a real issue released by DC Comics in March 1995 that boasts a female-led version of Kobra. This establishes the Outsiders comic as a part of Black Lightning's universe, but it's unclear if Anissa was inspired by the comic for her costume.

Airing Tuesdays at 9 pm ET/PT on The CW, Black Lightning stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning, China Anne McClain as his younger daughter Jennifer Pierce, Nafessa Williams as his older daughter Anissa Pierce, Christine Adams as Lynn Pierce, James Remar as Peter Gambi, Damon Gupton as Henderson, Marvin “Krondon” Jones III as Tobias Whale and Chantal Thuy as Grace Choi.
