Although news of The CW's Black Lightning ending with Season 4 only recently began making the rounds, one cast member was already preparing to put the superhero drama behind them.

On Instagram, China Anne McClain -- who plays Jennifer Pierce/Lightning -- explained how she already planned on Season 4 being her last and that fans can expect her to have a reduced role when the series returns.

"What I did know and have known along with the rest of the cast since before we even started shooting this season is that I am leaving the show and was leaving the show," McClain said. "This was going to be my last season, regardless of if it went on or not. For different reasons, that, to be honest, I don't want to go into. I just want y'all to trust me on it."

"I’m not leaving because I had a terrible time working at The CW," she continued. "I like The CW. I like [CW network president] Mark Pedowitz, I like [Warner Bros. president] Peter Roth, [EP] Greg Berlanti, I love [showrunner] Salim [Akil], I always will. He gets it. And people that actually know me… they know why I make the decisions that I make."

Black Lightning stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce, a teacher and principal at Garfield High School in Freeland. After retiring to help guide the next generation of Black youths, Jefferson dons his Black Lightning superhero attire once again when the drugs pushed by The 100 gang start to trickle into Garfield. With the help of his trusted confidant Peter Gambi, Black Lightning once again protects the citizens of Freeland.
