Eternals star Kit Harrington swears he knows nothing about Black Knight's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Game of Thrones actor, who made his MCU debut as Dane Whitman/Black Knight in the Phase 4 entry, sat down on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss his new film Baby Ruby and his Thrones future. When pressed about his next appearance as Marvel's Black Knight, Harrington made it clear that he is just as in the dark about it as the fans. "I, again…and this is true: I don't know much of what they're planning," Harrington said.

"And you know, I hope to be involved in future stuff, with that character, with Dane Whitman, and that he might go on and be the thing that everyone quotes at me in the street," Harrington continued. "But I honestly don’t know. I don’t know what their plans are. I know they’re going into a kind of Phase 5…"

Black Knight's MCU Future

Harrington explained that Marvel has not given him any hints to where Whitman will go after Eternals' surprise post-credit scene where he discovered the Ebony Blade, only to be interrupted by the voice of a particular Daywalker. "I know that, you know, obviously [Blade star Mahershala Ali]'s voices came in at the end of Eternals, but you just don't know where they'll take it," Harrington said. "And really, and I mean this genuinely and people never believe you when you say this, but they don't tell us much really. And I think for good reason, because we'll be in an interview like this and we'll go and spill the beans."

Created by Roy Thomas, Dane Whitman/Black Knight made his Marvel Comics debut in the pages of The Avengers #48 in December 1967. As the descendant of the original Black Knight, Sir Percy of Scandia, Whitman was the nephew of Nathan Garrett who became the supervillain known as Black Knight II. Following a heated battle with Iron Man, Garrett confesses his crimes to Whitman and passes down the Black Knight mantle to him. He would carry the mystical Ebony Blade to restore his family legacy and eventually became a member of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

This is not the first time Harrington has stated his uncertainty about Dane Whitman's involvement in future Marvel projects. However, he knows he knows enough from the comic books that there is more of Black Knight's story to tell. "I’ve got no idea whether my character goes on or not," he said in a September 2021 interview. "I had read up on who he could be, or might be. So there’s the possibility for a longer trajectory. And hopefully, I think this is the tip of the iceberg for my character. I hope."

Eternals is currently available to stream on Disney+.
