Though Black Clover started out a bit slow-paced, and some even accused it of being overly derivative, the show eventually found its rhythm, and it has turned out to be a fan favorite. The fight scenes are getting better, and they help viewers relate more to the mental state of characters who are in the heat of battle.
Asta is known for his resilience, among other things, and his inability to give up has inspired many of the other characters. During the major fights in Black Clover, there was usually so much to lose if the heroes let exhaustion be a reason to quit, so they fought against seemingly insurmountable odds until they were victorious.
10 Asta And Yuno Fought Licht With All They Had
Licht was able to take back one of his swords from Asta and erased the Anti-Magic in it, replacing it with his Sword Magic. Licht easily overwhelmed both Yuno and Asta, even while he was in a state of hibernation. At some point, he knocked Asta out of the fight and faced Yuno alone.
The two foes took to the skies and battled while Asta, pushed past his limit, regained his vigor. Despite their theme song blasting away, moments which in most anime signal the defeat of the villain, Licht was still able to send them crashing down with a powerful attack, obliterating a large area in the process. In the midst of all this, Asta was able to acquire another of Licht's swords.
9 The Elf Reincarnation Arc Was Full Of Exhausting Battles
It was battle after battle when the elves were reincarnated into the bodies of the Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom. The power of the elves was greater than that of the humans, so naturally, the fights were brutal. Only the best of the best were capable of fighting back and making any real difference in the outcome of things.
The Magic Knights who weren't taken over by elves had to keep fighting back, even though they were exhausted. This was remarkable considering how hopeless everything seemed when the possessed knights began their rampage. Against all odds, good prevailed over evil.
8 The Fight Against Zagred Pushed Asta And Yuno To Their Limits And Beyond
The devil known as Zagred turned out to be the mastermind behind the elves' reincarnation. He also tainted their minds, making them believe that humans were solely responsible for their massacre. When Zagred revealed himself, it was all too clear that he'd be a tough opponent to take down.
Asta and Yuno clearly had their work cut out for them, considering how long they'd been fighting other battles. They weren't alone though, they had help from Patry, Licht, and the first Wizard King. Even Captain Yami joined in and unleashed an attack that gave our heroes a chance at victory.
7 Vetto Brought The Pain When He Fought The Black Bulls
During their mission to investigate an underwater temple, the Black Bulls were interrupted by members of the Eye Of The Midnight Sun, led by Vetto. Vetto himself posed a big problem as he was very powerful. With little effort, he overwhelmed the strongest Black Bull mages. Asta being as tenacious as usual, refused to give up the fight.
Asta inspired his teammates to keep fighting, and they coordinated their attacks, landing a decisive blow on Vetto. Vetto attempted to self-destruct and take everyone with him, but Captain Yami stepped in and finished him off.
6 Mars Was More Trouble Than Anyone Thought He'd Be
While exploring a dungeon, the Black Bulls ran into Diamond Kingdom mages who came to steal treasures from the dungeon. Seeing as the dungeon was in Clover Kingdom territory, there was conflict as to who would get to leave with the treasure. Mars was one of the mages from the Diamond Kingdom, and he was a tough opponent to beat.
Asta, Yuno, Noelle, Luck, Mimosa, and Klaus gave their all to stop him, but he was too strong for them to take down easily. They had to keep fighting through, and as luck would have it, Yuno got a new spell and Asta gained a new sword. With these upgrades, they were able to put Mars out of commission.
5 Nozel Fortified Himself With Mercury Magic So He Could Keep Fighting
During the elf reincarnation arc, Nozel and Noelle fought Kivn, a possessed member of the Golden Dawn who specialized in compass magic. She was already a skilled mage in every right, but the reincarnation meant she possessed a much greater amount of magic than she usually would.
Kivn was not easy to beat, and just when Nozel and Noelle thought they had the advantage, she took them by surprise and attacked Nozel with compass needles, turning him into a pin cushion. After Noelle eventually defeated Kivn, Nozel was able to heal his wounds, and kept fighting until the other reincarnated elves were defeated.
4 Dante Was Too Powerful For Yami To Take Down Alone
Dante came to the Black Bulls' hideout to search for Yami, since Yami's Dark Magic was one of the keys to opening the gates of the underworld. After laying waste to the hideout, Yami arrived and gave Dante the fight of his life. If Dante didn't have the unsightly ability to regenerate, Yami would have made quick work of the strongest of the Dark Triad.
Luckily, despite his wounds, Asta was available to give Yami a helping hand when needed, and together they faced off against Dante. Dante's regenerative abilities were a pain to deal with, but Asta and Yami tirelessly fought until they landed a decisive blow that rendered Dante's regeneration ineffective.
3 Yami Literally Fought Exhaustion When He Battled Dorothy Unsworth
The Wizard King declared that the Magic Knight Captains were to face each other in battle in order put their power on display, and to prove to the people that they were capable of defending the Clover Kingdom against the Spade Kingdom. During the fight, as if identifying Yami as the most threatening to their team, Dorothy appeared out of nowhere and whisked him away to her dream world.
After being there battling Dorothy's imaginations for some time, Yami began feeling sleepy, an effect of being in the dream world for so long. Desperate to get out, Yami unleashed what was his most powerful spell at the time. With this, he broke out of Dorothy's dream world, ending the match in the process.
2 Luck Pushed Past His Limits To Use A True Lighting Magic Spell
During the invasion of the Heart Kingdom by the Spade Kingdom, Luck fought a mage from the Diamond Kingdom who works with Vanica. The mage's powers were more than Luck bargained for, and he nearly beat Luck to a pulp. Despite his speed and increased magic power, Luck was still unable to deal any lethal damage to this foe.
Luck recalled training with Gaja, a very powerful mage of the Heart Kingdom who specialized in lightning magic. He taught Luck how to summon actual lightning, but Luck took it a step further by developing a spell that could turn him into a bolt of actual lightning. With this, he literally tore through his target and won the fight.
1 Mereoleona Put Up One Hell Of A Fight Against Some Reincarnated Elves
Mereoleona was about to pummel the life out of Rhya when the reincarnation began, making Rhya even stronger. To make things worse, some other reincarnated elves joined the fight and attempted to put Mereoleona down. She quickly forced Asta and Zora out of the fight, claiming they'd get in the way, but really Mereoleona was just trying to save them from danger.
Mereoleona fought the elves head-on, and even with their enhanced magical abilities, the elves were unable to get her to stay down. Mereoleona kept fighting despite her injuries and dulled senses, much to the surprise of her opponents.
