Largely due to the Devils' existence, Black Clover's last few arcs have been filled with high tension. They've plagued the Spade Kingdom and targeted the Clover Kingdom, forcing the latter's strongest mages to fight them. While it took everything Asta and company had just to stop Lucifero and the other Devils, an even more sinister one makes its debut in Chapter 331.

Stopping Lucifero, the final boss of the "Spade Kingdom Raid" arc, required the full cooperation of most of the Clover Kingdom's best mages. Asta's anti-magic made major contributions during the battle, while Mimosa's healing magic was the star of the chaos afterward. However, as Black Clover enters its final arc, the Devils' threat is still not over.

Is Julius Novachrono Really a Devil?

Asta and Liebe talking about happiness and making dreams come true.

With Yami and Nacht out of harm's way, the mages of Clover Kingdom finally have room to breathe. Nacht brought Yuno to meet a very special person: his mother, the current queen of Spade Kingdom. Meanwhile, Asta and Liebe were also exchanging words of gratitude for the feats they accomplished during the fight with Lucifero. Although the ones who fought on the front lines were getting a much-needed break, Julius was feeling uneasy. He had a suspicion that he was overlooking something, and it was reinforced when Damnatio gave him a visit and reported the findings of his research on Devils.

According to Damnatio, there were three Devils ruling the underworld, the first two being Lucifero of gravity magic and Beelzebub of space magic. Astaroth of time magic was the final Devil, and Damnatio theorizes that Megicula might have come from Astaroth's ancestry. The curious discovery, however, was that, throughout history, there had only been one time magic user: the Wizard King, Julius Novachrono.

Julius Novachrono's Devil Identity Sets Up an Impossible Fight

It's common knowledge that Julius Novachrono is the strongest living mage in Black Clover, even managing to one-up death by supposedly saving a few years of his life. Now that he turns out to be a Devil -- and one of the rulers of the Underworld, at that -- he may prove to be a bigger threat than Lucifero. It can easily be argued that he possesses magic power on equal footing with Lucifero, but Lucius Zogratis -- Julius Novachrono's Devil name -- does not underestimate humans. He is also more cunning and strategic than Lucifero, as shown when he supposedly predicted this turn of events.

With the Wizard King lined up as the Black Clover manga's big bad, Asta and company have harsher days ahead now that the manga's final arc is in full swing. Julius in human form is already a force to be reckoned with, so his Devil form is probably exponentially stronger. It now raises the question of how Asta will beat his idol and goal alongside his personal matters -- especially since Lucius possesses an overpowered type of magic.
