The series has a lot to offer in terms of characters, and one character stands out among them all. The fan-favorite Captain of The Black Bulls, Yami.
This huge guy has captured many fans' hearts, mostly because of the way he deals with problems that come his way. As the Magic Knights of The Clover Kingdom ready themselves for battle against The Spade Kingdom, here are 10 things to know about Yami.
10 He's A Foreigner In The Clover Kingdom
Yami washed up on the shores of The Clover Kingdom after his boat got wrecked. He was met with discrimination by the citizens of Clover Kingdom and used to get beat up all the time. After Julius Novachrono saw him practicing his Dark Magic, Yami was recruited into a Magic Knight Squad, and the two have been friends ever since. He quickly rose through the ranks and became one of the squad's Vice Captains and eventually founded The Black Bulls.
9 He Was In The Gray Deer
The current Wizard King, Julius Novachrono, was once the Captain of The Gray Deer. After witnessing Yami practicing Dark Magic, Julius was impressed and invited him to join his squad. As a squad member, he made friends with William Vangeance and fought alongside Julius for years. Being a roughneck from a foreign land, many Clover Kingdom citizens were amazed that he got a grimoire and even became a Magic Knight.
8 Yami Is Very Loyal To The Wizard King
Since Julius was the first person in The Clover Kingdom ever to recognize his abilities, it goes without saying that Yami is very loyal to him.
Yami does everything that the Wizard King asks of him with no complaint, no matter how dangerous it might be. Julius was the first friend Yami ever had in the Clover Kingdom, and Yami repays him with his utmost loyalty.
7 His Most Powerful Characteristic
Yami has many features that make him strong, but the most impressive thing about this beefy guy is his ability to surpass his limits. Whenever Yami is faced with difficulties, he becomes even stronger by surpassing his own limit. He was locked in a different dimension when his squad members were fighting The Eye Of The Midnight Sun, and in his rage and desperation to get out, he unlocked Dark Magic: Dark Cloaked Dimension Slash, a spell that allows him to cut through dimensions. Very typical for someone like Yami.
6 He's The Founder Of The Black Bulls
After being recruited into The Gray Deer by Julius, Yami continued to perform greatly. During a mission to protect a village from bandits, Yami met William, another member of The Gray Deer, and the two fought together to save the village. Sometime later, they both became Vice Captains of The Gray Deer. After another mission to catch a traitor and round up some bandits, the Wizard King promoted them to Captains. This was when Yami created The Black Bulls, a squad for misfits.
5 He Adores His Squad Members
After creating The Black Bulls, Yami recruited various mages with all their different quirks. He even recruited Asta, a boy with no Magic at all! Besides him always giving death threats to his squad members, Yami genuinely cares for them and will do anything to protect them.
Despite his intimidating appearance, there is no single Black Bull member who hasn't seen Yami's soft side. He always encourages them to take risks, push past their limits, and grow stronger.
4 He Has Very Keen Battle Senses
Yami might first appear to be a clueless man who does nothing but smoke and take dumps all day, but one would be terribly wrong to underestimate him in a fight. His ability to read ki puts him at an advantage, and his predictions are almost on par with the Wizard King's. Yami can quickly assess a battle and know what will work best to his advantage. His use of Dark Magic is incredible as well, and it's almost like he has a move for every situation. When fighting Patry, the leader of The Eye Of The Midnight Sun, Valtos wonders if Captain Yami could rival even the Wizard King himself.
3 He Has A Good Sense Of Humor
Yami has a cool attitude and doesn't take a lot of things seriously. On various occasions, he can be seen making jokes and arguing with an ally in the middle of a battle. He often allows his squad members to goof off, and sometimes they trash up the house in the process. But Yami always steps in to calm them down by smashing a hole in the wall and yelling at the top of his voice. He also goes gambling with Magna and, more often than not, returns home half-naked after losing and without a care in the world. He's one hilarious man!
2 He's Clueless When It Comes To Romance
Yami once saved the life of his soon-to-be fellow Captain, Charlotte Roselei, and from that moment on, she fell head over heels for him. Yami doesn't realize it, though. He's as clueless as can be when it comes to love. Despite all the obvious hints, Yami still doesn't know that Charlotte is in love with him. Charlotte has done all except outright, saying, "I love you, Yami," but if he does notice, it'll be too soon.
1 He Shared A Friendly Rivalry With William Vangeance
Yami met William for the first time when he was fighting to protect a village from bandits. The two fought side by side and rounded up the bandits. After this, they began a rivalry to see who would become Captain of a Magic Knight Squad first. Years passed, and they both became Vice Captains of the same squad. After another mission to rid the Kingdom of some bandits and capture the traitors working with them, they were both promoted to Magic Knight Captains of two new squads. Their rivalry continues to this day.
