Summary

  • Asta has collected three swords in the Black Clover anime: the Demon-Slayer, the Demon-Dweller, and the Demon-Destroyer.
  • Each of the swords gives Asta a significant advantage during battle, especially when combined with his Anti-Magic.
  • In particular, Asta's Demon-Destroyer sword has the potential to make him one of the most powerful mages in the Clover Kingdom, despite his lack of magical powers.

Over the course of Black Clover, Asta has collected three very powerful swords: Demon-Slayer, Demon-Dweller, and, most recently, Demon-Destroyer. Each of these weapons can be exploited in highly specific ways, although it's not always obvious to Asta when he uses them for the first time. Although he receives the Demon-Slayer and Demon-Dweller swords early on in the series, he only obtains Demon-Destroyer in Episode 100.

Asta gets his third, and arguably most powerful sword, after observing how it could absorb the magical attacks produced by Yuno. The Demon-Destroyer blade is later found written into Asta's grimoire. This is because the sword itself chooses him to be the next person to wield it, which it may not have done if he had not mastered his first two swords beforehand. Here is everything you need to know about his new Demon-Destroyer sword.

Updated on October 3, 2023, by Ajay Aravind: Black Clover is a highly intricate medieval fantasy story, albeit told through a distinctly Shonen lens. The series focuses on magic, explaining why there are no major battles where magical attacks aren't involved. Asta's case is unique, however. As the only known human in the world without any magical powers, he can use a rare power known as Anti Magic. This happens when he receives the five-leaf clover grimoire — whose fifth leaf supposedly represents the Devil residing within it. Asta can currently use three separate swords, although he temporarily works with an Anti Magic version of Yami Sukehiro's katana in Season 4. That said, it's clear that Demon-Destroyer is the most powerful of the trio. As such, we've updated this feature with some more information.

Asta's Demon-Slayer & Demon-Dweller Swords

Asta's original swords are unique in some key ways. Demon-Slayer is very big and bulky, and it can grow bigger depending on the situation. Asta can also use it to fly as if it were a broom and summon it back to him, like Thor summons his hammer. The Demon-Slayer sword can slice through magical attacks, as well as reflect them with ease. Strangely enough, it's nearly impossible to pierce corporeal objects like human bodies while using Demon-Slayer.

Asta often uses this sword to negate any magical spells placed on people — a minor flick with the hilt does the job. Another interesting feature of Demon-Slayer is its ability to control Anti Magic, which effectively turns the sword into a makeshift hoverboard. Demon-Slayer's most potent technique is Black Divider, which has been shown several times already in the anime series. In fact, manga fans have seen the ultimate form of Black Divider.

Originally located deep inside an otherwise unremarkable dungeon, Asta's Demon-Dweller sword can absorb magic as well as redirect it. This allows Asta to broaden and strengthen his Anti Magic attacks. Further, Demon-Dweller can exploit any nearby allies by extracting their magical aura. This Anti Magic sword can also transfer critical information by currently unknown means. Asta gets much better at wielding Demon-Dweller after picking up Zetten, an extension of the Ki-manipulation technique taught to him by Captain Yami Sukehiro of the Black Bulls.

Fans have seen Asta perform several Union magic spells with Demon-Dweller. The Spirit Light Tree, for instance, is materialized by the combined efforts of Asta and William Vangeance. Meanwhile, the Protecting Light spell requires a combination of Anti Magic and Light Magic. Interestingly, the Demon-Dweller Sword's Black Slash ability exclusively relies on its Anti Magic properties, producing slashes that look similar to Ichigo Kurosaki's Getsuga Tenshou attack in Bleach.

Asta's Demon-Destroyer Sword Is A Wild Card

Asta wielding Demon-Destroyer in battle

Asta comes across Demon-Destroyer in the Gravito Rock Zone, right before the climax of the Elf Reincarnation arc. The Demon-Destroyer sword is a bit of a wild card, because the upper limits of its power and potential are still unknown. It shares some traits with Demon-Slayer and Demon-Dweller, like being able to cut and redirect spells with a blunt edge. But it also has an unprecedented spell called Causality Break, or Inga Kaiho (which translates to "Fate Release"). This spell allows the Demon-Destroyer sword to absorb all the magic present in the surroundings, effectively erasing all forms of enchantment, as well as their physical effects, by taking away their source of power.

Asta's Demon-Destroyer sword does this by producing Anti-Magic that touches those affected, for example, by forbidden magic like Elven possession, and absorbing all the magic both inside and around the victims. This power could be seen as an extremely overpowered form of healing magic, even if that isn't its actual purpose. This is demonstrated at the very beginning of Season 3, when Asta heals Father Orsi and the villagers of Hage, absorbing the unnatural poison from their bodies with the Demon-Destroyer sword.

Asta's Sword Demon-Destroyer Can Save Souls

Asta raising the Demon-Destroyer sword while facing Lilith and Nahamah

Asta has used the sword for extremely powerful moves throughout Season 3 of Black Clover. He began by nullifying as many Elven possessions as possible, even going so far as to turn an Elf away from being consumed by hate and despair. This means that Demon-Destroyer has the power to save souls, as long as it can successfully destroy the magical tether binding the victim. He also used it to cut the tree binding all the Elves' souls together, severing their ties to the mortal plane and sending them back to the afterlife. This is easily one of the most powerful techniques seen in Black Clover, suggesting that Demon-Destroyer can actually negate a magical attribute as overpowered as Reincarnation Magic.

It is clear that there are hidden depths to what Asta's Demon-Destroyer sword could accomplish. Although his first two swords are very powerful and just as useful, Demon-Destroyer's arsenal of abilities puts it in a class of its own. It can be argued that the addition of Demon-Destroyer's ability to absorb magic, coupled with his formidable physical strength and his demonic hybridity, puts Asta well on his way to becoming one of the most powerful mages within the Clover Kingdom — even without a single ounce of Mana in his body. Fans can only wait and see if Asta will acquire any more swords before Black Clover ends.
