Having debuted nearly a decade ago, today Black Butler is one of the most recognized manga in Japan, which is quite a feat considering that it’s neither shounen nor does it rely on action or fanservice.

While the manga has been adapted into an anime series and even a movie, many arcs and characters were left out of them due to time and budgetary constraints. Here is a look at 10 fan-favorite characters that never made it to the anime.

10 Joanne Harcourt

This 2nd-year student at the Weston School is an extremely sensitive and shy young boy. His entire class deemed him a liar, as a result of which he developed low self-esteem. Although he’s extremely good looking, he rejects popularity and instead prefers burying his nose in books. Coincidentally, he met Sebastian for the first time in his school’s library

Joanne is in the Red House and his age hasn’t been revealed, although it’s understood he’s the same age as Ciel, which would make him 13 years old.

9 Cheslock

Cheslock is shown to be an extremely creative and artistic young boy, which is reflected in the way he dresses, styles his hair, and pierces his ears. He’s the head of the Purple House and all his housemates are well aware of his contemptuous and irritable nature.

Even so, Cheslock has proven himself to be an excellent leader, which is demonstrated in the Public School Arc when his dorm caught on fire. Cheslock immediately swung into action, took a head call of all the students to make sure no one was missing, and then lead them safely outside the dorms.

8 Wolfram Gelzer

This German officer made his debut in the Emerald Witch Arc, where he was shown to be a butler to the young miss Sieglinde. Despite Sieglinde being a military mission for him, he ends up developing genuine feelings of affection towards her and chooses to remain by her side when his military’s operation goes sideways.

Even though he’s smart and meticulous, Wolfram can be terribly dense when understanding the gravity of serious situations. He took a very long time to trust Ciel and his servants.

7 Herman Greenhill

This ex Weston student was the head of the Green House. He stands apart because of his dignified air and silence, as well as his love for sports activities. He is strict by nature, loves following rules and doesn’t hesitate from reprimanding his subordinates when they go out of line.

Herman is loyal to a fault, which can be seen when he trusts Ciel Phantomhive only on the say-so of his subordinate Edward Midford.

6 The Other Ciel

The mangaka Yana Toboso has deliberately kept the Other Ciel’s details in the shadows. All the readers know are a summation of the hints that she’s dropped. These include him dying in the family mansion fire, being resurrected by the Undertaker and becoming the first perfect bizarre doll.

While he was extremely kind and generous before he died, after his resurrection, the Other Ciel became cruel and cunning.

5 Sieglinde Sullivan

This 11-year-old child is the Emerald Witch who resides in the Werewolves' Forest. The villagers worship and believe her to be their savior, a lie that she was raised to believe since her birth. What she doesn’t know is that she is actually part of the German military-run Emerald Witch Education Project.

Sieglinde easily warms up to Ciel and Sebastian and goes out of her way to provide both of them quarters in her home.

4 Othello

Othello made his first appearance in the Blue Cult Arc and is shown to be one of the less problematic grim reapers. He’s laidback, is good at what he does and avoids working in the field because he doesn’t have any faith in his fighting abilities. He always wears a white lab coat and unlike other reapers, doesn’t possess a death scythe as well.

3 Nina Hopkins

Nina is a strong-willed and independent woman who runs a tailor shop. She’s been employed by Ciel to sew custom clothes for him, especially when it comes to celebrating special occasions.

Nina always boasts that her family has dressed many people from the Queen’s lineage, and she currently designs clothes for the Sphere Music Hall Costumes.

2 Blavat Sky

Not much is explained about this mysterious fortune teller, who was immediately able to tell that Sebastian wasn’t human, much to Sebastian’s shock. He seems to be in charge of the insidious happenings of the Sphere Music Hall, including creating a boy-band to commemorate the re-opening of the music hall.

1 Edgar Redmond

Edgar Redmond is the ex-leader of the Red House and currently has ties with the happenings in the music hall. He is an extremely handsome young man, and Ciel commented that he looks a lot like his uncle Druitt.

Edgar loves the color red, as is evidenced in him always wearing red clothes, and he ended up being expelled from the Weston School.
