Black Adam's latest trailer confirms that Hawkman's powerful mace has a new ability.

Highlighted at two key moments in the video, the leader of the Justice Society of America, played by Aldis Hodge, shows off his iconic weapon. At the 1:21 mark, the winged hero unsheathes the mace, which seemingly sports a head that spins furiously to amplify damage. If this isn't enough, at the 2:06 mark, when Hawkman is staring down the sinister Sabbac, the mace magically turns into a great axe. It's unknown whether this new ability is learned over the course of Black Adam's narrative or if it's one of the hero's inherent powers.

Based on the film's trailer, Hawkman will serve as a foil to Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) as he attempts to secure and contain the antihero under orders from Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Hodge promised audiences that the DC Extended Universe's take on the JSA will be markedly different from other onscreen superhero teams. "Honestly, don't put [the JSA] up against any of the other teams that we've seen before, because this is a very much [a] refreshing new look at what a superhero team is, as we come together into this space," Hodge explained. "You know, it's a whole new experience."

Hawkman will seemingly be working closely with Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), a sorcerer who is able to sling all manner of spells thanks to the powerful Helmet of Nabu. "[Doctor Fate] has powers to foresee the future, and raise the dead, and teleport, while wearing a gold helmet... It's a blessing and a curse. It’s almost like a drug addiction in some respects," Brosnan said.

While the JSA is still trying to unite as a unit, they'll have their hands filled when it comes to dealing with the titular Black Adam. Johnson hasn't held back when it comes to describing his antihero's brutal actions, noting that Teth Adam's moral code means he won't hesitate to kill. "If you attempt to harm his people, his family, his country, or him, he will rip you in half," Johnson stated. "He will literally grab you by the neck, and then grab you by the thigh, and rip your body into two pieces."

Black Adam crashes into theaters on Oct. 21.
