At DC FanDome 2021, Warner Bros. dropped the first footage of Black Adam, showing archaeologists discovering the ancient demigod's resting place, only to be attacked by the awakened antihero, who annihilates the entire team with ease. The clip was the first real footage from the upcoming film to be released, though not the first teaser. The teaser was a short animated trailer comprised of artwork depicting the fictional nation of Kahndaq, as well as Black Adam's powers. It was released during DC FanDome 2020.

When it comes to bringing this sort of character to the big screen, both Johnson and producer Hiram Garcia have explained in the past that the approach was to stay true to the comic book character without going overboard in terms of violence on screen. Garcia previously explained, "This will be PG-13, but it's not because we're being forced to be PG-13... The way we devised the movie, it just wasn't necessary to make it R, and it's something we discussed because we did want to be true to the character. The truth is that we felt we were properly able to represent the edge and power that Black Adam has without needing to go to an R rating. This movie can thrive in a PG-13 space and that’s great for us because we want to introduce Black Adam to as many people as possible."

He went on to say, "It's big and fun but edgy with very real stakes. There are lots of people on screen that won’t make it to the end of the movie because let’s be honest, Black Adam is not the kind of character that throws people in prison. That said, I think the audience will have a blast with this."

Who those characters might be is a bit uncertain. The upcoming film will introduce a wide variety of characters to the DCEU, including the superpowered beings of the Justice Society of America, which includes Hawkman, Cyclone, Doctor Fate and more, played by Aldis Hodge, Quintessa Swindell and Pierce Brosnan, respectively.

Black Adam arrives in theaters July 29, 2022.
