DC's Black Adam has a new replacement named Malik White who will take on the powers of the titular anti-hero.

Black Adam #1 comes from writer Christopher Priest, artist Rafa Sandoval, colorist Matt Herms and letterer Willie Schubert. The issue, which is the first in DC's new twelve-part series, introduces readers to a character named Malik White. Malik first encounters Theo Teth-Adam at the hospital where he seemingly works -- although, a nurse later informs a detective that there is no "Dr. White" employed there -- when Black Adam barges in and demands to know if Malik had any interactions with Shakur Nassar. "Leader of the Reform Movement in my country," Black Adam tells Malik about Shakur Nassar. "Last seen alive at your home. He's been assassinated."

Malik denies any interaction with Shakur Nassar. He's later interrogated by the police and detained for a time about the same issue. Malik is leaving the police station with his friend, Jasmin, when he's grabbed by a man and thrown into some sort of portal that transports him to Kahndaq.

There, he's greeted by a small group of people -- one of whom is a detective working with Black Adam who was previously searching for Malik -- who refer to him as "master" and inform him that Nassar "wanted revolution here in Kahndaq" and wanted Malik "to help lead it." A mortal and seemingly injured Black Adam then steps out and reveals he's dying. "You, Malik-Adam...are my descendant. Thus -- the power of Black Adam -- I bequeath to you." The issue ends with Malik sharing in shock as he attempts to comprehend what he's just been told.

The Black Adam series explores Theo Teth-Adam's immortality being stripped away. DC previously revealed that the character will die by Black Adam #3 and Malik will be forced to enlist any means necessary to try and bring him back to life. Irvin Rodriguez's Black Adam #4 cover also shows Malik dressed in a white version of the Shazam villain's suit, while a variant cover by Rafa Sandoval shows him sitting on a bed while Etrigan the Demon looms behind him.
