Move over, Batman! Black Adam is getting ready to push the boundaries of PG-13 superhero films. Speaking to CBR about his upcoming film Red Notice, producer Hiram Garcia offered some insight into Seven Buck Productions' different approaches to Black Adam and DC League of Super-Pets, as well as Black Adam's "very high kill count."

"Black Adam is edgy, right? That's gonna be a PG-13 movie where it was very much like, say, The Dark Knight, where that pushed the edges of PG-13. I think we do that very much with Black Adam. We have a very high kill count in our movie," Garcia told CBR with a laugh.

"Super Pets, you're not dealing with that, right? Super Pets is a different tone, where it's just fun," he explained. "There's a lot of wish fulfillment. It's a lot of laughs. Ultimately, it's a really fun ride that gives you a perspective into the superhero world, especially when you're dealing with the Justice League, through the eyes of these pets, that are awesome."

"Ultimately, I think so much of the world can relate to the love, the connection someone has with their pet," he added. "We really are able to tap into that when you consider that Krypto is Superman's best friend, and really, Krypto is the only other person on this planet that is from Krypton, like Superman. So there's a special bond that goes even deeper between the two that we really have fun playing with."

Although Dwayne Johnson had been rumored for the role for nearly a decade, a Black Adam film wasn't officially announced until Jan. 2017. However, the project spent a few years in development hell, at least until Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra signed on to helm the film in June 2019. According to Garcia, "Once we got Jaume on board to be our director, things really clicked in." Subsequently, Black Adam picked up several major stars, including Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as HawkmanQuintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Marwan Kenzari and Sarah Shahi.

Production on Black Adam wrapped in July earlier this year. Then, in October, Warner Bros. debuted the very first footage from the project at DC FanDome. This footage offered a glimpse at Black Adam's violent tendencies, as he brutally attacked the military unit that stumbled across him, thus confirming Garcia's promises of a "very high kill count."

On the other hand, DC League of Super Pets had a much smoother journey to the big screen. The animated film was announced in July 2018, with The LEGO Batman Movie scribe Jared Stern attached to write and direct. Johnson joined the project as Krypto, while Kevin Hart boarded Ace the Bat-Hound. Marc Maron was later announced as Lex Luthor. Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Keanu Reeves and Jameela Jamil are also attached, but their roles remain unknown at the time of writing.

Red Notice swings onto Netflix starting Nov. 13, while DC League of Super-Pets bows on May 20, 2022 and Black Adam arrives in theaters July 29, 2022.
