The latest poster for Black Adam has teased that the hierarchy of power in the DC Extended Universe is truly about to change.

Dwayne Johnson is front and center in Warner Bros.' newest poster for the DC film, which features the titular antihero sitting on his throne and glaring menacingly at those who dare try and oppose him. "The time of heroes is over," the poster's tagline reads, suggesting that the Justice Society will have a hard time trying to get Black Adam to see their way of heroics in the upcoming film.

Black-Adam-1

Eight years after being cast as Black Adam, Johnson is set to make his live-action debut as the character in Black Adam, which is expected to begin with Teth Adam being bestowed the almighty powers of the gods in ancient Kahndaq. However, after "using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam," states the film's official synopsis. "Nearly 5,000 years have passed and Black Adam has gone from man, to myth, to legend. Now released, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone."

The Justice Society Enter the DCEU

Although the latest trailer for Black Adam featured a blink-and-you'll-miss-it reference to the Justice League, the upcoming DCEU film will actually feature a different superhero team, the Justice Society, which is composed Aldis Hodge's Carter Hall/Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Al Rothstein/Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Maxine Hunkel/Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate. Despite comparisons to Marvel Comics' X-Men in the latest Black Adam trailer, Hodge has stated that the Justice Society will be unlike anything fans have seen onscreen before, teasing that the upcoming DCEU installment offers a "refreshing new look at what a superhero team is." Johnson has also hinted that DC fans should expect to see more of the Justice Society in the DCEU's future, revealing that there are early plans in the works for spinoff projects centered on the superhero team.

Black Adam also stars Sarah Shahi as freedom fighter Adrianna Tomaz/Isis, Marwan Kenzari as Intergang leader Ishmael Gregor/Sabbac, Mohammed Amer as Adrianna's brother Karim and Bodhi Sabongui as Amon. Viola Davis will also be back as A.R.G.U.S. officer Amanda Waller. Black Adam will mark Davis' fourth time portraying the character in a DCEU project after Suicide Squad (2016), The Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker Season 1 (2022). At this time, Amanda Waller is the only previously introduced DCEU character slated to appear in the upcoming DC film.

Black Adam opens in theaters on Oct. 21.
