Pierce Brosnan has gone from Goldeneye to golden helmet, the latter of which he wears and helped fashion for his role as Doctor Fate in Warner Bros. and DC Film's upcoming Black Adam.

"It was a very beautifully designed outfit and helmet, which I'm quite fond of," the actor told Total Film. "[Director] Jaume Collet-Serra is very inclusive in the collaboration. He was wonderful in the sense that he would send me designs of the helmet, so I could participate in the look of it."

Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Howard Sherman, the Kent Nelson version of the character that Brosnan plays in the film debuted in More Fun Comics #55 in May 1940. The son of an archeologist, Nelson accidentally kills his father while exploring the Valley of Ur in Mesopotamia after awakening Nabu, an ancient god from the planet Cilia. Nabu then trains Nelson to become Doctor Fate, an agent of the Lords of Order and a founding member of the Justice Society of America.

Known for his signature blue-and-yellow costume, the crown jewel of Doctor Fate's ensemble is his golden helmet, aptly called the "The Helmet of Fate," which contains the spirit of Nabu. Brosnan compared Nelson's relationship with the helmet to that of an addict. "It's a blessing and a curse," he said. "It's almost like drug addiction in some respects. It takes a lot of energy to wear the helmet." Some versions of the character, like Smallville's (played by Brent Stait), are driven mad by their connection to the object.

In June, Brosnan revealed that Doctor Fate's costume was digitally created with CGI and motion capture. Though this technique has been criticized when used in films like Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern, fans were pleased by Brosnan's comic-accurate attire when he appeared in Black Adam's first trailer.

Best known for his tenure as James Bond, Brosnan joined Black Adam back in March 2021. "You need a special actor to play, basically, a legend. Dr. Fate is a very powerful being, so you need someone like Pierce who can play powerful without it being overly done," Collet-Serra told Vanity Fair in August. "He can do it in a very subtle way. I mean, he's one of the coolest people in the world -- he was James Bond! But as a person, he's magnetic, so warm with such gravitas."

Fans can see Brosnan wearing the helmet he helped design when Black Adam enters theaters on Oct. 21. More background on the film's version of Doctor Fate will become available when Black Adam - The Justice Society Files: Doctor Fate, a one-shot prequel comic tie-in, hits the shelves on Oct. 4.
