Black Adam, also known as Teth-Adam, is played by actor Dwayne Johnson, who previously expressed his passion and enduring enthusiasm for the role. The actor has been attached to the role in some capacity since as far back as 2007 when the villain was set to appear in a Captain Marvel film and Johnson was being considered for either the titular superhero or the antagonist. He was officially cast as Black Adam in 2014 when development for what would become Shazam! began again.

Johnson recently revealed both Black Adam and Shazam were originally intended to debut in a single film, but he fought for both characters to receive a solo project. He explained, "I fought hard to both characters (+JSA) to have their own stand alone films for the fans to enjoy. And protect Black Adam's ruthless [and] extremely violent tone as we built out [the DCEU]."

Black Adam - Villain or Hero?

The actor has commented on what separates the antihero from other superpowered figures that have made their way onto the big screen in recent decades. He said, "What makes Black Adam unique and different is that he lives by a code. If you attempt to harm his people, his family, his country, or him, he will rip you in half... He will literally grab you by the neck, and then grab you by the thigh, and rip your body into two pieces."

The only ones who stand a chance of beating him are the members of the Justice Society of America, comprised of Hawman, Doctor Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone, played by Aldis Hodge, Pierce Brosnan, Noah Centineo and Quintessa Swindell, respectively. Trailers and clips that have been released tease a destructive confrontation between the demigod, Black Adam, and the superheroes, who question whether the ancient being is here to save the world or destroy it.

Black Adam is set to crash into theaters on Oct. 21.
