The highly anticipated Black Adam film will introduce one of the most powerful antiheroes DC has to offer to Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe. According to producer Hiram Garcia, the upcoming film is just the beginning of a multi-film arc.

Speaking to Collider, Garcia explained, "We have always had a vision of where we saw we wanted this to go. We've never viewed this as just a one-off movie." Although the finer details of any follow-up films and spinoffs have yet to be settled on, the producer did go on to add, "There's always been a rough, kind of loose outline in our head on an imaginary white board of how we'd want to do it."

He continued, "As we're making that, we start to look at that a little bit more. But, again, ultimately, we need the movie to be received well and we want fans to like it, but there's 100% a vision of what we'd like to be doing in a multiple picture aspect when it comes to Black Adam and the [Justice Society of America]."

In the same interview, Garcia revealed that a Black Adam spinoff is in development, though he did not divulge any details concerning who the spinoff series will focus on or how it will fit into the DCEU. He did, however, tease, "We have very big ambitions for it."

Whether or not the spinoff or indeed any sequels will move forward rests solely on the success or failure of the upcoming Black Adam film. Garcia explained, "The priority is always making sure we launch this movie right, but we're always going to be ready when the time comes to be able to jump into those other movies and tell those stories when the fans want."

The upcoming Black Adam has been in the works for almost a decade, with Johnson signed on since 2014. Development and production of the film have faced a number of issues ranging from director changes to the global pandemic, which stalled filming. While the DCEU project has been given a PG-13 rating, Garcia told CBR Black Adam will "push the edges" of PG-13 and will include a "very high kill count."

Black Adam is scheduled to hit theaters on July 29, 2022 and will be released on HBO Max after approximately 46 days.
