The DC Extended Universe will add a new superhero to its growing roster: Atom Smasher, played by Noah Centineo. He will make his big-screen debut in the long-awaited Shazam! spinoff, Black Adam.

Centineo is known for his performance in the Netflix film, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, in which he played Peter Kavinsky. He reprised the role for the sequel and will once again for To All the Boys: Always and Forever, Lara Jean. The actor also appeared in 2019's Charlies Angel reboot.

Also known as Albert Rothstein, Atom Smasher first appeared in JSA Secret Files and Origins #1 (written by James Robinson and David S. Goyer, illustrated by Scott Benefiel, Mark Propst and John Kalisz), after Rothstein's brief superhero career as Nuklon. Atom Smasher becomes a rival of sorts to Black Adam that only changed after the two band together to free Khandaq from the grasp of a dictatorship.

Black Adam was initially scheduled to begin production this summer. However, principal photography has been delayed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. According to Johnson, who is set to play the titular antihero, production will instead begin some time between August and September.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 22, 2021.
