A brief but tantalizing glimpse at Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema's Black Adam surfaced in a new trailer for DC FanDome.

At the 30-second mark, fans can spot Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Black Adam in a dark setting that's periodically illuminated by lightning.

Black Adam has had a long and tedious road to production. As early as 2007, Johnson's name has been attached to the titular character, but the solo film didn't get off the ground until a decade later.

"Yes, of course, in the mythology Black Adam is a villain, or he can be an antihero," Johnson said in 2017 after Black Adam got the greenlight. "Or to some, he's a hero -- to some who have a black heart, like me. Growing up the DC villains were always my 'heroes.' As evil as they were, they were always my favorite. Still are. Luthor, Joker, Brainiac, Sinestro etc. and of course the ruthless one, Black Adam. Cooking up some cool, bad ass and fun plans with DC to introduce Black Adam into the Universe."

Jaume Collet-Serra was tapped to direct Black Adam in 2019, and he and Johnson collaborated on Jungle Cruise just before shooting the DC film.

While much of the Black Adam plot is still being kept under wraps, the film is poised to introduce the Justice Society of America, including mainstays such as Atom Smasher, Hawkman, Doctor Fate and Cyclone.

The first official look at Black Adam was revealed at last year's DC FanDome, though -- save for this newest glimpse -- no footage has surfaced. "Black Adam is one of the most powerful characters in the DC Universe," Johnson said at FanDome in August 2020. "However, heroes must show restraint against their enemies. Black Adam does not practice restraint, which makes him very likable to me."

In addition to Johnson, Black Adam's cast includes Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell and Pierce Brosnan, among others. Filming wrapped in July, nearly one year to the date of the film's theatrical bow.

Black Adam arrives in theaters July 29, 2022.
