Sarah Shahi is preparing for her upcoming mystery role in DC's Black Adam in the most effective way possible: reading comic books.

On her Instagram page, Shahi displayed three Black Adam-centric comics in their casings with a simple description, "Research." These include two issues from 2006's post-Infinite Crisis limited series 52 and a one-shot Black Adam story from 2019's Year of the Villain crossover event.

Though it hasn't been officially confirmed, general speculation from fans and the aforementioned 52 comics seem to imply that Shahi will be playing the superhero Isis. First appearing outside the comics in Filmation's 1975 TV show The Secrets of Isis as part of The Shazam!/Isis Hour, Isis' affiliation with the live-action Shazam series eventually led to her incorporation into Shazam's DC-related mythos. She was later reintroduced in 52 as Adrianna Tomaz, an Egyptian woman whom Black Adam met and, after convincing him to be a more benevolent leader of Kahndaq, received from him the Amulet of Isis that imbued her with godlike powers. DC's Legends of Tomorrow character Zari Tomaz, played by Tala Ashe, currently serves a more updated variation of the character, with her amulet reinvented as the Zambesi Wind Totem.

In addition to Shahi and Dwayne Johnson's titular character, Black Adam will feature superheroes from the Justice Society of America, including Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. Doctor Fate is also set to be a supporting character in the film, though his actor has yet to be revealed, nor have any further details on how Black Adam will tie into the 2019 Shazam! movie starring Zachary Levi.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson, Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Quintessa Swindell and Sarah Shahi. The film has yet to receive a release date.
