Adrianna Tomaz has played an important role in Black Adam's story throughout multiple incarnations. According to the script for the upcoming film, the relationship between these two will be continuing.
In the script, Adrianna is Black Adam's wife, a fiercely proud Middle Eastern woman who is confident enough to love him and stand up to his harsh rule. Black Adam has recently awoken from a long slumber, and he needs the help of Isis to see him through it.
This version of the character has differences from her previous counterparts, but her core has remained the same. The character first made her appearance in the 1970's TV series The Secret of Isis. She was a science teacher named Andrea Thomas who finds the Tutmose amulet in an archeological dig in Egypt. This amulet gave her the power of the goddess Isis.
Isis has since joined the mainstream continuity of DC's comics, featuring in the weekly series 52, in which Adrianna Tomaz was a slave who was offered to Black Adam. Her righteous fury over the way in which Black Adam ruled his country convinces him to free her and enlist her help to improve his country. They become lovers, and as his cruelty subsides in the face of her sense of hope and justice, he gives her the Amulet of Isis.
It's unclear whether or not Adrianna will become the analogue of Isis in the movie, but her relationship with Black Adam will apparently remain intact. Black Adam is generally shown as aggressive, ruling with an iron fist, while Isis represents peace and has historically been able to calm his harsh nature and inspire him to rule with more kindness. The script also reveals that Adrianna will have a son named Aziz, a new character to the mythos.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters Dec. 22, 2021.
