Marvel is diving headfirst into making series for Disney+. WandaVision debuted in January, and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is following later in the year. Marvel Studios is even getting into animation with the What If...? series, exploring possible outcomes in the events of their cinematic universe.

With so many series being added to the schedule for the next few years, it seems like a perfect opportunity to dust off some of the weirder properties that they have access to. No property is off-limits unless it's tied to Spider-Man. After all, this is the studio that made Rocket Raccoon and Groot household names.

10 Obnoxio the Clown (Larry Hama)

Obnokio from Deadpool Back in Black #2

Obnoxio was created by Larry Hama as a mascot for Marvel's humor magazine Crazy. Obnoxio is a vulgar, cigar-chomping clown. His entire act is exactly what you would expect from someone using the name "Obnoxio."

A story for Obnoxio is a little harder to come by, as the character doesn't have a lot of history to draw from. He can be the character that a lot of humor revolves around and his appearance in 2016's Deadpool: Back In Black #2 (by Cullen Bunn and Salva Espin) shows how he can be used. Having his path cross other Marvel characters can make for a fun, if not rude show.

9 US-1 (Al Milgrom & Herb Trimpe)

Cover detail to US 1 #9 by Michael Golden

US-1 gets a very bad rap for being the trucker superhero. The series took a hard left turn at the end, introducing an alien that took almost the entire cast into space. Adding to this was Ulysses Solomon Archer having the superpower of picking up CB radio signals.

The idea of a trucker allows for a very serialized format, allowing for many characters to be highlighted. Story elements that the series never addressed could be explored. As with many other characters, his format allows for characters to guest star or make cameos. This allows the episodes to be back-door pilots for other series.

8 Saga of Crystar (Mary Jo Duffy & Bret Blevins)

cover detail from Saga of Crystar #9

Crystar may seem like an odd choice, especially since the title was created to tie in with a toy line. However, Crystar is a Marvel-owned property, obvious by the characters' appearances in Secret Wars and Weirdworld. This proves that this fantastic crystal world has possibilities beyond what was explored in the series.

Of course, the series should probably be animated and in a style more unique to the series. The style of What If...? will not work across the board. The Crystar covers by Michael Golden honored the fantasy elements to the story in a different way than the interior art by Ricardo Villamonte, as skilled as he was. The series should draw inspiration from this fantastic body of artwork.

7 Man-Thing (Steve Gerber)

man-thing in the swamp

Marvel Studios needs to really delve into horror and no character can carry that like the Man-Thing. His tag line, crafted by Steve Gerber is "Whoever knows fear burns at the touch of the Man-Thing." That is the inspiration for the series.

Man-Thing should be drawn to fear, allowing for the character to act as a vehicle for different stories. Treating the character like Swamp Thing or centering the story on a hunt for the Man-Thing is the wrong way to go for a character that can't speak. Humor can be inserted by carrying on the long-running joke around the double entendre with the character's name.

6 Millie the Model (Ruth Atkinson, Mike Sekowsky, Dan DeCarlo & Stan Goldberg)

Cover detail from Millie the Model #148

In the Silver Age, Millie the Model was a holdover from Marvel's pre-hero days of the 1950s. It was primarily a humor title but also ventured into romance and adventure. Millie's world as a model allows for stories that haven't been explored. Millie can also be updated as less of a traditional fashion model and more of a social influencer trying to elevate to the next level.

Marvel has a lot of characters that crossover into the world of Millie. Big Bertha of the Great Lakes Avengers is a possible cameo, as is Patsy Walker, who last showed up in the Netflix series Jessica Jones. She can also cross paths with any of Marvel's lawyers, or introduce a character like Dazzler to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

5 Doop (Mike Allred & Peter Milligan)

Doop just might be the weirdest mutant in the Marvel Universe. He has a mysterious quality that only parts of which other heroes know about. It might seem odd to see him get a series before the X-Men debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's an opportunity for a straight humor series that shouldn't be discounted out of hand.

It can be an opportunity to explore some lingering questions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Did SHIELD know about the Ten Rings? Why was Doctor Strange on Hydra's radar before he ever learned magic? It can also introduce numerous characters to the MCU that fans have been waiting for.

4 Weirdworld (Doug Moench & Mike Ploog)

Weirdworld is a great catch-all for the more fantasy-themed characters in the Marvel Universe. Crystar already has mentioned this other-dimensional reality, but there are so many characters that populate this unique and bizarre corner of the MCU. Arkon, Skull the Slayer, and the sorceress Jennifer Kale are already established with Weirdworld, but other Marvel characters can be incorporated.

Woodgod, a forgotten genetically engineered creature, could exist naturally in Weirdworld. Wundarr the Aquarian or Thundra could be reimagined as a resident of Weirdworld. The demon D'Spayre could even be a lingering threat to the entire realm, providing a purpose for a hero like Jennifer Kale or some other Marvel character to stop over the course of the series.

3 The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl (Erica Henderson & Derek Charm)

Squirrel Girl Decorating a cake

Squirrel Girl was supposed to be one of the characters in a New Warriors television series that never materialized past a pilot episode. The character is just too good to let her die in television limbo. Her series where she faced down immense threats throughout the Marvel Universe shows just how entertaining her series could be.

One story element that could be incorporated is Squirrel Girl's borrowing of a suit of Iron Man armor. Of course, the humor of characters like Koi Boi and Chipmunk Hunk should not be ignored. her time travel element could even be explored with a certain time travel machine from Avengers: Endgame discovered in storage.

2 Howard the Duck (Steve Gerber & Val Mayerik)

cover detail from Howard the Duck #16

One of the cameos in Avengers: Endgame that was noticed by eagle-eyed fans was Howard the Duck coming to the big final battle against Thanos. This puts the character on Earth, where a series could start, with the character wanting to get a new start.

Of course, with a character that has seen the cosmos, being on Earth could just be a reason to want to get back into space. Much of his time in his comic was just Howard being miserable. A well done and genuinely funny Disney+ series could go a long way to erasing the 1986 film from the minds of the public.

1 Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. (Warren Ellis & Stuart Immonen)

Cover detail from Nextwave Agents of HATE #11

Warren Ellis and Stuart Immonen's series Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. was an entertaining look at heroes almost forgotten by Marvel Comics. With Monica Rambeau set to have a role in Wandavision and Captain Marvel 2, a Disney+ series following her film appearance could be a great vehicle to build popularity with fans. It would also introduce characters like Machine Man, Boom-Boom, and Elsa Bloodstone.

The series could also introduce some elements that the films have not yet addressed like  Fin Fang Foom and his purple underpants, MODOK, and the Mindless Ones. It's a tongue-in-cheek approach to super-heroes is also something that the MCU needs to address more.
