In the comics, Zsasz is a longtime Batman villain who also happens to be a serial killer. Zsasz was a wealthy man whose parents died, sending him into a deep depression. He lost almost everything to Penguin. However, after he killed a homeless man, he became addicted to killing. His calling card is the mark he leaves on the victim's body when he kills. As such, it's surprising to see him working with Black Canary, a longtime superhero.

When Chris Messina was cast as Zsasz, it was reported that he would work with Black Mask. It's possible this is an early scene, so he could eventually betray Black Canary. For now, though, it seems he is working alongside one of our heroes.
