Birds of Prey Set Video Reveals An Unexpected Team-Up

The latest Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) set video shows a very curious and surprising team-up.

The video, which was uploaded to Twitter, finds the police arresting Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco), with Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina) arriving too late to prevent her from being taken away.

According to the synopsis for Birds of Prey, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Black Canary, Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) will team up to save Cassandra Cain from Black Mask (Ewan McGregor), Gotham City's local crime lord.

In the comics, Zsasz is a longtime Batman villain who also happens to be a serial killer. Zsasz was a wealthy man whose parents died, sending him into a deep depression. He lost almost everything to Penguin. However, after he killed a homeless man, he became addicted to killing. His calling card is the mark he leaves on the victim's body when he kills. As such, it's surprising to see him working with Black Canary, a longtime superhero.

When Chris Messina was cast as Zsasz, it was reported that he would work with Black Mask. It's possible this is an early scene, so he could eventually betray Black Canary. For now, though, it seems he is working alongside one of our heroes.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is directed by Cathy Yan and stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ewan McGregor, Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, Francois Chau, Chris Messina and Matthew Willig. It is scheduled to be released on February 7, 2020.
