Days after securing a release date, the DC and Warner Bros. film Birds of Prey has added two more actors to its cast.

Variety reports actresses Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Black Canary and Huntress, respectively. The duo joins Margot Robbie, who will reprise her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn and also serve as a producer on the project.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Smollett-Bell and Winstead were among a group of actresses that had been named as possible contenders more than a week ago. At that time, actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw was up for the role of Black Canary along with Smollett-Bell, with the two having been considered the top choices, although musician and actress Janelle Monae was also reportedly in the mix. While Winstead was up against both Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers) and Cristin Milioti (Black Mirror) for the role of Huntress.

Winstead, of course, is perhaps best known for her work in Scott Pilgrim vs the World, where she played the role of Ramona Flowers. She also appeared in the critically acclaimed 10 Cloverfield Lane. Smollett-Bell is best known for her work on the smaller screen in shows such as True Blood and Underground.

Details surrounding the project remain sparse for the time being. However, it's thought that the Birds of Prey will be taking on Black Mask, a villain who squandered his wealth so fabulously that he eventually turned to a life of crime, rising to become one of the chief crime kingpins in the DC Universe.
