Birds of Prey: Margot Robbie Really Wants to Introduce Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy Harley Quinn

In 2020, Warner Bros. plans to release Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), a movie that will feature not only Harley, but Cassandra Cain, Black Mask, Black Canary, Renee Montoya and Huntress. Fans are also clamoring to see another character as well, one tied closely to Harley: Pamela Isley, better known as Poison Ivy. As it turns out, Harley Quinn actor Margot Robbie would like to see her as well.

"If you read the comics you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship. In some comics they convey it as a friendship; in other comics you can see that they’re actually sexually involved as a couple. I’ve been trying to – I would love to have Poison Ivy thrown into the universe, because the Harley and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I’m looking to explore that on screen," she told Pride Source.

When asked if she had an actress in mind to play Ivy, Robbie said she remains open-minded about it.

Looking at the DC Extended Universe as a whole, Robbie has really embraced her role as Harley Quinn. She ensured the new Birds of Prey film got off the ground by agreeing to not only star, but also produce the project. Additionally, she lent her voice to the character in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. She is rumored to be involved in three more DC films after Birds of Prey.

The film, slated for a Feb. 2020 release, also stars Ewan McGregor as the villainous Black Mask, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain. The film will be directed by Cathy Yan based on a screenplay by Bumblebee scribe Christina Hodson.
