How I Met Your Mother alum Charlene Amoia, perhaps best known for her role as Wendy the Waitress, has joined the DC Extended Universe.

Amoia has been cast in Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Deadline reports that she will play Maria Bertinelli, the wife of mobster Franco Bertinelli and mother of Helena. Her death and that of her husband at the hands of their former criminal compatriots is what sends Helena on the path to become the vigilante Huntress.

The adult version of her daughter Helena, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, will be one of the main characters in the film. This will actually be the second time Amoia has been involved with a DC adaptation, as she previously appeared in an episode of The Flash earlier this year.

In How I Met Your Mother, Amoia's character was a frequent supporting character and series regular for six seasons, often providing a cheery and friendly presence for the sitcom's main cast.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), directed by Cathy Yan off a script by Christina Hodson, stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ewan McGregor, Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, Francois Chau, Charlene Amoia, Chris Messina and Matthew Willig. It is scheduled to be released on Feb. 7, 2020.
