‘Birds of Prey’ wings clipped by WB

It appears the wings of “Birds of Prey” have been clipped by a frog.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the WB series “Birds of Prey,” based on DC Comics characters, has been shelved by the network.

As reported in our Comics2Film column, the “Birds of Prey” premiere was a big hit for the WB Network, bringing in 7.6 million viewers and attracting their largest audience ever in the 18-34 demographic. The network had hoped to recreate with “Birds of Prey” the success it found with another comics property, “Smallville,” which has seen its numbers rise this season. Unfortunately for fans of “Birds of Prey” the weekly audience numbers have shrunk dramatically since that impressive debut. The Hollywood Reporter said it is unclear when production will stop on the series which had an initial order of 13 episodes.

Replacing “Birds of Prey” will be “Grounded For Life,” a series picked up by the WB that was on the fence over at Fox. Expect more news on these events in Wednesday’s Comics2Film column by Rob Worley.
