There's good news for Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey, as it looks like the female-first comic book caper is set to open with a promising box office debut.

According to Boxoffice ProBirds of Prey is expected to nab a respectable $40-$60 million opening and has been given an exact figure of $49 million. This places it almost level with David F. Sandberg's Shazam!, which earned a $53.5 million in its opening weekend.

The site goes on to point out the possible pros and cons of Birds of Prey. Positives include Robbie's leading role and her Hollywood credentials, the female line-up of stars appealing to fans who want more diversity, and Warner Bros.' recent box office success with DC movies like Joker, Wonder Woman and Aquaman. That being said, there are negatives that could impact box office predictions. Namely, lesser-known characters like Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain, the mixed reaction to the movie's trailers and Suicide Squad's polarizing reception might hurt Birds of Prey's potentially healthy opening.

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) stars Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ewan McGregor, Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, Francois Chau, Charlene Amoia, Chris Messina and Matthew Willig. The film is scheduled for release on Feb. 7, 2020.
